Default Click Click Click

I have a 2004 GX470 that has been the best car. However a new sound has been heard coming from the interior behind the dash. Click Click Click and is constant even when a/c is off and radio is off. Only happens when car is running. Any ideas? Thank you for taking the time to consider and respond.

When my amp went out it made some strange noises whether the radio was on or off but it would shut down after it made the noises for probably 20-30 seconds. After it did it a couple times I unplugged the amp. Not sure if that is any help for you or not.

I think the amp is under the drivers seat. Does the click click sound increase with engine speed?
[ Exhaust leak can cause a tick tick sound ]

You could use a Dr stethoscope to probe deeper for where the noise is concentrated

If it is behind the dash, this kinda noise is similar to what I had a few years back, and that was the part for the AC which is " Damper for Blower Servo Sub Assy".There are many units. You need to find which is bad. This unit I replaced is located right behind the Instrument cluster. The Part number is 87106G. I had removed this unit, there is a small motor and a brush within which needs to carefully removed and grease, that is if you want to do it yourself. If not you can buy this unit from Sewell with a discount. I had done the first time, it lasted 9 months or so, then again the "click click" noise began, which was pretty irritating, once your used to the GX Quiet cabin. I removed the whole dash and replaced this, as this probably was eating my head for pretty long time. Patience wore out. Did this replacement. And since then "Super quiet".

Now most probably this is what I presume the sound you are having. Probably may not be. But many GX owners had similar issue and also other Lexus models which pointed to replacing the Servo Damper. These issue is widely discussed on CL various Lexus models forum.

There is a TSB for GX Click noise but this one is for the Windscreen, where the rubber needs to be replaced, but they affect GX models 2003 ( exclusive to certain Production VIN )

Thank you all for the responses. Sound is coming from behind the glovebox area so I think that rules out amp if it is under the seat. Had Evaporator replaced almost two years ago. Biggest repair hit since buying car but well worth since it is at 314k for miles so far. If it is this servo and dash has to come out it would be another $1,000 plus repair for a part under $100. Will end up having done but likely have dash replaced at same time since I have experienced the cracking over the past year despite perfect care. Thank you again

Have you tired removing your CD changer cassette? Maybe it's hung up and the CD changer is cycling. Just a thought....
