Default Audio Problem

The audio system sound in my 2005 GX470 suddenly quit working properly. When first starting the car, I have no sound from any of the system sources (am/fm radio; tape; cd player). After the heater warms up the car, usually about 5-6 minutes, the sound comes on and all sources work fine. If anybody has a solution, I would appreciate hearing from them.

Temperatures in the area that the car is driven can be below zero, however this is the first time since the car was new that this has happened.
Thanks.

As a possible answer:

Somewhere in your audio system is a loose connection of some sort. It may be a wire or a poor solder joint, or even a cracked trace on a circuit board. When the temps drop low, the metal contracts and the loose connection becomes NO connection. As things heat up, the metal expands and the connection is re-made. Eventually, the connection will fail altogether and then you can troubleshoot it and (maybe) determine what's wrong. Until then, finding the failing connection is almost impossible and will be totally frustrating.

Default Audio Problem

RickC5,

Thank you for your response. What you say makes sense. I tried to solve the problem by doing everything obvious with my limited GS systems knowledge before posting on the Forum. I will limp along until the audio system fails completely, and then take the car into a dealer or audio specialists for repair.

Once this happens, I’ll post the “fix” on the Forum.

My local audio car shop determined that my amplifier was bad, which they removed and shipped to United Radio in East Syracuse, NY for repair. The total cost to get my system up and running again was $542.00.
