Default Heat shields

I jinxed myself by posting in another thread that I have not done anything other that normal maintenance in two years.

Murphy's Law hit. I heard the vibration in my heat shield over the muffler. It is held in place by (4) 10 mm studs, attached to the body. The trouble is that the nuts are cadimium or galvanized. They ate my aluminum heat shield over the muffler. It wasn't salt, because I was able to remove all (4) nuts. The aluminum corroded around the nut heads and fell onto the muffler.

After removing the nuts, without lowering the muffler (one 10 mm nut is in a tight area at the front), I used larger stainless steel fender washers and re attached the shield covering the small holes in the heat shield. This wouldn't have been a problem if Lexus used an inert washer or nut, to hold the thin aluminum heat shield.

All of the other heat shields under the car are attached the same way. I just put some rust proofing on the other nuts for now.
