Default Towing with a GX470

We are looking into purchasing a 2007 - 09 GX and towing a ski boat (approx 3500-4000lbs). Has anyone been towing and how does the GX handle the weight? We are now towing the boat with a 2500 Chevy pickup but we don't need that large of a truck due to selling our goose neck horse trailer and wanted to go to a SUV. Also has anyone has a issue with using a carry all rack on the rear. I see the exhaust pipe is stright out the rear, does this cause an issue?

Hitch haul works fine on the back of the GX . The rubber tip on a bunge close to the exhaust did melt

It should handle that load pretty well. You may need to take into consideration the weight when braking, IMO this is the trucks weakest towing link. The GX was, by far, the best launch and recovery vehicle I've used. It could handle any ramp, never lost traction, even with the rear wheels in the water. My only other complaint is that I couldn't open the rear hatch with the trailer connected.

I've been towing a 2007 21' Malibu VLX with no problems (3600 dry, not including trailer) for 5 years. And I drive up from the Sacramento valley to the mountains. Besides guzzling gas, it handles the hills no problem. Steep launch ramps are also not a problem. I've never had power or slipping issues.

Towed a 21' SeaRay cruiser before that, since day 1 when I bought the GX new in 2004.

Besides towing, having the backup camera and being able to lower the rear suspension makes hooking up the trailer a breeze. I do it alone in one shot with no adjusting.

My only complaint is that the stock brake rotors warp really easy. They are a mess by the end of the summer.
