Default Transmission 2004

Hello All! My last thread was about buying my father in laws car and I did buy it. I have had it for a little over a year now and I love it. Bought new tires last December (Michelins) and got rear ended six months ago by a Z3. We were fine and he was not, we needed a new bumper and he needed a new car. I feel very safe in my gx now knowing what it can do. My questions is about the transmission. I called the dealer where it was purchased to get the work history of the car and they did the 90k service at 111k miles. So thats a good thing since I am at 187k now. I am going to change the timing belt/water pump etc at 200k. But they didn't change the transmission fluid. A local shop did it (a flush) at 126 and they used whatever fluid the manufacturer recommends. . I asked the dealer when it should be done and they said every 100k miles but that seems like a lot of miles to me. When I asked the independent shop he said every 40k. What do you guys think? I have an appointment at the Toyota dealer (we don't have a lexus dealer here) to get the oil changed tomorrow but I can easily get the transmission changed as well.

I just looked at the scheduled maintenance log for the GX470...starting at 60K service it says under "Additional Maintenance Items for Special Operating conditions" - Replace transmission fluid: "Only if vehicle is operated primarily while towing a trailer or using a camper or car-top carrier",

The next time it mentions it again under the same section is at 120K miles...so I think your option is to do it any where between 60K or 120K depending on how you operate your GX.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks a bunch! I didn't see that under the 60k service. I was going to do it more often than 100k. 60-80 seems more resonable. Thanks!
