I'm getting the windows tinted monday, which percentage do you guys use to match the rears? The shop uses the suntech brand. They have steered away from 3M, suntech has less violet in it.

 

35% for my GX

 

thanks. i got them done today and ended up with 35%. he did 20% first, stepped back for a second and said "nah" and ripped them out. too dark. did them twice. Cost me $40.

Did you do front windshield too? I did mine very light. I like it a lot less heat.

It cost me $65 to do takes about 45 minutes great results. I will post pictures.

 

isnt there a clear tint you can put on you front that still rejects heat?

 

Window tinting looks cool, but many states have laws restricting how dark you can tint. Here in Colorado there are such laws, but tint shops regularly install illegally dark tinting. You leave thinking you're cool until a state trooper pulls you over and tickets you. Now that you've already spent the bucks on the tinting, call your local sheriff and find out what's legal.

 

Considering 30 percent on front driver and passenger windows and 50 percent on rear side windows and rear window. Looking at LLumar Stratos.

 

I was legal on the fronts at 15% but the state changed the limit to 25% a few years ago. I keep passing my state inspection so 🤷‍♂️
They allow any level of tint on the rear, so I'm at 5% (light transmission).

One thing that helps is to have the fronts noticeably lighter than the rears. At a glance it looks legal so I don't get pulled over for it.
They would need a meter to know for sure, especially since I have my inspection paperwork that shows it passed.

This is the 4th vehicle I've had done with Llumar ceramic. It's been on there 8+ years and I've not had any bubbling or turning purple.

Tint is something you want to only get done once - especially on the rear glass where the defroster wires are (removing tint often damages them).
So pay for the good stuff and choose an experienced installer.

IMHO ... heavy tint in the rear looks good ... in the front ... one needs to becable to see the front passengers ... or is considered "Mafia Tint" ... and is therefore illegal in most states.
