GPS Navigation Update
The official Lexus discs can be ordered here: are no longer available. But you can find the part number off the Wayback Machine from when the site was active, and you might could find a new-old-stock disc on eBay.

They occasionally have sales, so you might want to keep an eye out. You will see them being sold on eBay, etc. but make sure you buy an official one and not one that someone copied. There have been cases where 3rd party discs have bricked the navigation unit.
You don't say what year GX you have, but you should be aware that 2003-2004 navigation systems are no longer being updated. 2013 is the newest set of road info you can get. Also - for those years, the difference between east and west is the POI database. If you have the east disc, you won't see gas stations when driving in the western US.

Ours is a 2004 GX470. So by the sounds of it the latest and last update is for 2013.
A Lexus dealership here on Vancouver Island quoted $195.
Still contemplating why I would update the disc costing me over $200 with tax when I can just use my Garmin GPS when needed.

Wow, didn't realize this was such a long thread. I started reading it and still wasn't sure what the answer is.
I have a 2006 GX470. Am I correct that I need the Generation 4 software to update it and Gen 5 software will not be compatible with my truck? Does this mean Gen 4 is the latest software compatible with 2006 hardware but will otherwise have maps as current as Gen 5 software, or does the generation denote the actual currency of the maps?
Thanks.

The Lexus navigation site was taken down several years ago. But the Wayback Machine captured it:

For a 2006 you need Gen 4 DVD: PT219-GEN04-15 (the last one made, from 2015)
A Gen 5 disc will not work in your unit, and that would only get you one more year anyway (not worth much)

Funny nav story -
I went to dinner last night with a couple, and she said "You'll want to avoid the interstate when you go home - it's red and probably backed up from an accident."
I looked at her - she didn't have her phone out, and she was pointing at my nav screen. "Your traffic update says it's backed up"
"Uhh, I don't get traffic updates. It's red because it's an interstate. The road data is current as of 2015"
lol.

I bought the latest update disk from eBay for my 2008. It was a genuine disk. Paid $20 for it if I recall right. Has been working perfectly. It came with both the west and east disks.

time to give up on updating NAV system on a truck that hasn't been built for 13 years....WAZE is all thats left unless you change out your entire head unit...in 5 more years you can get historical plates for the first GX made here in NJ
