For some road trips I think it would be, but having owned an LX (albeit a '98) I can say I don't think the GX gives all that much up to the LX for road trip purposes. In fact in many respects the GX is superior (e.g., 2.5" more leg room for 2nd row in GX v. LX, over an inch of extra headroom for both 1st and 2nd rows, 14 speakers v. 11 ). That said the LX is AWESOME and it does swallow up more stuff behind the second row for sure. I remember one road trip we took to visit a relative where we were able to haul an entire kitchen table set complete with chairs in addition to our luggage and 3 occupants with the 3rd row removed and half the second row folded down. I don't think my GX could have accomplished the same feat unless I had a roof top luggage carrier like shodog's.

I was driving a rental car (GM SUV) while I was in Sedona, really missed my GX.
We had a Chrysler 300C. Air condition could not keep up with the heat and the interior smelled like warmed over plastics. Ewwww. My wife complained about missing the GX too.
