New Headlights!
Dan - I know that you are working on a write-up on how you did this mod. Can you tell me if this is a part (the whole lens housing) that you bought and installed or did you actually have to take apart your existing lens housing and changed the chrome reflectors to black? It wasn't clear what you meant when you said that you did it yourself. Thanks.
BTW - I think the mod looks great. I have an 05 Silver Pine Sport also and I'm strongly considering this mod.

LexGX- sure
The process pretty much involved removing the hardware on the lights, baking them, a whole lot of prying, removing the chrome housing, prepping the housing for paint, paint, reassemble.
for anyone who wants to try this, get a second set of lights for this...i wouldn't want to ruin my original ones.

hey d....we still waiting for instructions....as per se ive purchased an xtra set of headlights so now im hoping ur write-up will be precise!!!! cant say how much i LOVE this mod....TIA....
Dan, I love the headlight mod. In the Nissan Maxima community we call this the AE (Anniversary Edition) mod. All the AE Maximas came with the headlight housing painted black. So I already know the procedures. Also, it seems like you've used the dull paint. Some people use the glossy paint to give it a bit more shiney look. Anyway overall it looks great. When you rebaked the headlights did you use any type of extra sealant? One of the major issue that everyone was having was leakage. Water would leak into the headlights.

yes i used flat black paint, i was worried if i used glossy paint, it would have a weird reflection with the plastic lens cover.
As for extra sealant...DEFINITELY! for how much work it was, i didnt want to have to redo the lights.

CV,
i bought steel bars from a metal supply shop, cut to length so it reaches from the mounting hole on the plate to the factory tow hook. drill holes. stack washers to get the skid plate position right. sandwich the tow hook with washers, long bolts, and nut.
for the 05+ taco plate, there's also a rear mount, so once the plate is lined up properly, drill a hole in the factory GX skid plate, and use a small nut and bolt to secure the rear of the plate.
make sure to use nylock nuts, so they wont back out.
