Default Nightscreen of Navigation

Got my 2006 GX470 just yesterday, so...learning curve for me. Please advise how to change the Navigation screen from daytime to nighttime mode.

Thanks.

very funny....I was driving at night yesterday with the headlights on, but the NAV screen was the same as during the daytime...light yellow in my case.

make sure the brightness dial for the dashboard lights is not in the brightest position. When it is, nav will not switch to night mode.

Josh wasn't putting you on. My screen goes to black background when the headlights are turned on.

Congrats on the new GX! Turn your dash brightness level down a notch when the lights are on and it will go to a black background. Leave it there and there is a sensor that will dim the screen when it gets dark. I leave my lights on auto and in the AM on the way to work, the NAV screen will go bright and then eventually lights will turn off.

Cool Actually an interesting MOD ....

I know about the off-detent position to place the Nav in night mode. But I was curiuos if anyone knew of a mod to keep it that way, with the dimmer switch set all the way on. I kind of like the full brightness of the guages at night, but the Nav screen brightness was excessive. The night mode is still usable at any point the headlights are on. If any one has any interest in looking into this Mod, it would be great to see what you discover posted here.

Thanks .....

ADV, not exactly sure what you want, but there are controls that can modify how the screen looks, that might help you.

There is contrast and brightness.

You can also set the screen to stay in Day Mode, even with headlamps on (but I think this is the opposite of what you want).

You can select the "background" color.

Finally, you can select different different map "color schemes".

Perhaps some combination of these things will get you to a "look" that works for you.

Thanks for the response, Loflin. I did try most of those combinations. Nothing gets to where I was hoping to be. All the various colour modes kind of look odd. I prefer the standard default colour mode. And the map being in the "day" mode is not what I want at night.

What I was hoping for is this: While driving at night, the gauges are fully lit (as if the dimmer was all the way up), and the map to be in night (dark background) mode. The way the wiring is now, with the dimmer all the way up, causes the Nav to display "day" mode. And that is far too bright for comfortable driving. I hope that makes it a little clearer.

I imagine that someone would need to interupt the extra voltage or signal from the dimmer wheel to the Nav system. That would cause the Nav to think the dimmer was not at Max level and display the "night" mode of dark background.

It may be more difficult than I think. But hey, worth the inquiry.

Have you tried to change the settings at night ?? If not, turn the brightness wheel down a bit. That should dim your NAV.

Cool I guess I am the only one who desires this feature...

Your correct, it dims the Nav by putting it in "night" mode. But, it also dims the gauges. Which is why I threw the idea of a mod out there ....

Default Barely dims the Dash Lights

ADvocate.....

In my case, it barely dims the dash lights when it goes to Night Mode.
