The GX is aimed at a particular, upscale market. I strongly doubt we'll ever see a 2WD truck-based Lexus SUV. Also, with all the additional features and sound deadening of the GX, it weights considerably more than a 4runner. Another reason we'll never see a V6 GX.

I wouldn;t be suprised to see a hybrid, though. Toyota/Lexus has proven their hybrid technology is quite good, and they have successfully made high-power version with both the new GS and upcoming LS, incorporating 6 and 8 cylinder engines. Plus, hybrid is actually quite suited to an SUV since electric motors make huge amounts of torque from a dead stop.

But, hybrid sucks in the mountains. Remember, electric/battery power can only last so long before it needs to be recharged. And when your electric power runs out...you are left with the smaller-than-needed gas engine.

There is a onboard battery charger in a hybrid car. The battery is charge by the engine, it will last 5 to 6 years.

Can we expect a mid-life refresh for the GX in 2007? Not that it needs it really, it is a very sharp vehicle. But it will be year 5 since introduction. I know 2005 brought the improved V8, the Sport Package, and Bluetooth.... but I wonder if there will be any minor styling changes for 2007. The 4Runner got some minor changes for 2006 if I am not mistaken (rounded wheel wells for one).

I can see the GX not getting the V6, especially since it would be called a GX400 most likely... not enough of a marketing difference. I'd still like to see a 2wd GX.

As far as other changes:
- I'd like to see the KDSS standard on all GX's
OR
- the Sport Package to be available with the Golden Bird's-Eye Maple wood trim

Just got back from the Javits center in NYC, the International Car Show, and the people at the Lexus display had no new news of anything changing except the Nav and possibly LEDS in the rear but that was about it. Some very nice trucks there to weight options against the GX470. He aslo said we should see the new trucks as well as pricing in the fall

Default Toyota Prado

Too bad the Toyota Landcruiser Prado is not available in the US. They basically the same truck as the GX470 but It come with a V6 240HP & 343TQ. Don't know how fuel economy it is. It come with a 6 spd manual transmission thought. Even come in a 2dr!
