First Trip-Seats
The wife and I took our first trip yesterday in our 06 GX470. A round trip of about 700 miles. Neither one of us was not particularly impressed with the comfort of the seats. Weout commented about how our SC430 seats are so much more comfortable. I tried various seat postions and lumbar support but never found a really comfortable combination for long periods of time. After a while my back was hurting. Also my hips seemed to be pressing against the edge of the seats. I kept shifting my butt to one side or the other in the seat. It was almost as though the seats were not wide enough. Before you think anything I am 6 feet and weight 170 lbs.
This was never an issue with the 04 SC430. I hope it gets better.

The front seats have a lot to be desired. My wife who is 5' 7" and is the primary driver of our GX and has no real complaints. I am 6' 2" and have a hard time getting comfortable no matter what I do. I attribute this to the short seat cushions and overall lack of thigh support and where your feet are in relation to your legs (floorboard to seat ratio). The driver seat is a touch more comfortable since I can at least adjust the seat cushion up and down - no dice in the passenger seat as there is no such control. As such, I avoid being the passenger at all cost. Really a shame such a large vehicle is so lacking in this area. Not looking forward to our first long vacation - guess I will be doing the driving.

Yeah - I'm dissapointed in the seat comfort, too -especially since I bought this SUV partly for comfort. After a lot of tweaking I kind of have the driver's seat OK - good thing it has a memory or it would be 10 minutes of work every time hubby took the car.
Hubby rarely drives if I am in the car, but the other night I told him go for it. I was in the passenger seat for about 2 miles, and could not find a comfortable position. Unbelieveable how few adjustments there are - no up down or tilt - I felt like I was falling off, and there was actually a hard spot under the rear end.
My old Explorer had much nicer seats - even adjustable side supports for the driver. None of the new vehicles I tried had seats as plush and adjustable as those.
