Default Rear Window Washer Question

When I turn the stick to wash the rear window (using the downward postion when the wipers are off), most of the time I get a big squirt of washer fluid and the wipers don't turn on. I then have to turn them on manually to get rid of the liquid.

Every few times they do turn on by themselves and go back and forth a few times. I can't see where I am doing anything different, is mine defective or is there some trick to this?

A couple of other questions on this topic:

Does the back washer fluid come from the same tank as the front washers? (I'm used to a second tank, but couldn't find one in the manual or the vehicle)

Is there an easy way to tell the level of fluid in the tank? I looked under the hood and found the spout, but the tank seems hidden under stuff.

Thanks.

I think the rear wiper washer turns on at the upper most and lower most position of the ****. If you use the upper position, then it will wipe twice and stays in the intermittent position.
There is only one tank for the washer fluid and the tank level is not visible, but there is a low washer fluid indicator on your instrument panel.
Hope taht helps.

.
Is it supposed to go on when used in the lower position (that skirt of liquid streaming down the window and the back door seems kind of useless). And why would it go on sometimes?

If I twist it down to get the washer fluid to spray on the back window, my wipers do their automatic dance and wipe a few times then turn off... as expected. Sounds like you might have something defective.

SilverL, if you are FAST enough, you can get it to squirt w/o wiping. Hold it on longer.
