Has anyone recently installed the Vais Tech Ipod unit in their GX470 with Nav? Curios as to the difficulty level.
I have added some comments on another thread, but in summary, the new kit is great. The installation is about the same as the older kit I would guess. But, the new module is future proofed with a programmable port. In the near future, they are supposed to allow an upgrade to the IPOD units, to also control XM or Sirius units within the same module. You just buy the cable for the new interface from them. I have been happy with the new module, it has built in noise filters. I did not have to add an external isolation transformer to get rid of any hum. It worked well right out of the box. The controls work well. Sometimes it gets confused, but cycling around the ML inputs will correct the problem. There is a post somewhere about the procedure for installing the unit. I used that post as my "guide" to get started. If I find it again, I will add it to this post.
Had mine installed in 30 minutes. Mounted the unit right behind the ML nav unit on the round crash bar. Drilled a small hole in the back of the glove box for the Ipod and done. Hardest part was pulling the wood panels. They feel like the are going to break, but they don't.
Just did the VAIS SLS w/ Sirius tuner today.
Works great like factory. no external tuner etc, everything as it would be stock thru the head unit.
I had it installed because I had everything I needed except the courage.
After watching them do it, I could have done it myself.
