GX Storage Compartments
Considering the interior space Lexus had to work with in the GX, they really dropped the ball on overall storage compartment design and space, including the abysmal center console and cupholders. Aside from the console being too low, there is no volume to store anything outside of a few CDs. The front cupholders are WAY too shallow. Anything larger than a coke can has a 50/50 chance of tipping over and that's with the butterfly holder clamped tight. Also there should be some smart slots below or near the center instrument cluster for small item storage like a cell phone, parking pass, etc. IMO, the 4-runner does a much better job of ergonomics with respect to compartment space while having the same interior volume. Overall, I am fairly pleased with this SUV, but the inside utility is somewhat lacking.

I never have a bunch of small items to carry so what the GX has is fine for me. But I think Lexus should get rid of the separate front armrests and just enlarge the console storage. But then some like the ability to keep the arm rest height separate for the front seat occupants. And I see the value in them. Should be like the LX which has the front seat armrests along with a cushioned top on the much larger console cover. Then again, the LX is at least 2" wider so they do have the room.

My wife complains about the lack of storage in her GX, especially since coming from an Expedition. The way I look at it, it's less area that she and the kids can pile junk in. You had to see the disarray in the Expo.

If you think the GX's cup holder is a joke, take a look at the Range rover sport's cup holder. In my opinion, the GX's cup holder is ok, but there should be a storge space where the heated seat's controls are and there should be a center arm rest with a storge compartment inside.
