Angry Disappointed

Lexus is now over rated. My '04 that is pampered with 31K miles, informed by dealership that the rear shocks have failed. Dealership said they never seen this. Lexus Customer Service would not provide any info. Anyone hear of shocks failing at this early stage?

Nope, sorry to hear that! Since your GX is still under warranty they should take care of you. It does not sound normal for them to fail, and both of them at the same time. Sounds strange to me...do you do a lot of towing?

Default No

I do not tow at all....I do NOT even have a Tow Pacakge. Most that I do is that I drive to and from the office...all highway driving.......

Really disappointed...and was going to treat myself to an 06 LS430 and 06 SC 430 for Thanksgiving Day...........

Tom,

This is the first I've read of anything like this. I wouldn't go as far as to broadly say that "Lexus is now over rated" because of your specific issue.... like everything mechanical, something can go wrong with it no matter how well built or designed it is.

I suspect this should be covered under warranty - are they telling you otherwise?

ps - try the cranberry relish on the SC430 for Thanksgiving

Default Perhaps a bit of an exaggeration? It is a machine, after all (more)

Yes, Lexus has a good reputation and all, but any machine on any given day can have a problem. Or, did you expect (realistically) that no owner would have a problem. Ever.
OK- there was a problem. It shall be repaired. Based on what I see with other makes, its not so bad.
In short, and without intending to be insulting, it appears you have unrealistic expectations.

LV,

Not too sure I understand? If the dealership said the shocks failed, great. It's under Lexus 4 year 50K mile warranty, fix it at no charge to me. Are they somehow not honoring the warranty, please let us know but more importantly CONTACT Lexus Corporate HQ and JD Powell...

Otherwise, I don't understand how shocks failing constitues Lexus being overrated.

LV,
just so you know, Lexus does not manufacture their shocks. it is usually done by one of the big shock manufacturers. (tokico, showa, kyb etc)

LVLexus, is it just b/c Lexus is so reliable that when something goes bad, it's all over?
Doctors do get sick too you know

Don't feel bad, but how about I lighten the mood by saying that my father in law's 01 S500 catalytic converter was dead/rattling at only 24k miles (along with a few other things)? Things will break down and I won't go about calling MB's a total POS........as long as it was covered under warranty

Am I right JWS3 fellow MB owner ?

Now if Lexus did nothing about it, then it would be justifiable.

Not my intention if I sound like a jerk.

I've not heard of this happening. Our `04 GX has about 12K miles and no problems yet. Lexus Overrated? Because both rear shocks failed; Customer Service cannot explain; or because the dealer will not repair under warranty? Either the shocks were defective or something caused them to fail, like towing or hauling very heavy things. As for your other response that but for this occurrence to your `04 GX, you were going to treat yourself to an `06 LS and an `06 SC for Thanksgiving all I can say is that's an interesting dilemma you have for yourself.

My GS300 2001 both front struts went bad around 20k miles. Lexus covered new struts replacement and also said this is unsual but can happen. Dealer can say they never seen this happened which is very true.
Thay why we have manufacturer warranty.

Don't give up on Lexus!!! We have two and yes, once in a while things happen. We also have a Lincoln and it's a complete nightmare. Leaking electronically-adjustable struts, rear-end suspension noise, hvac failure, just to name a few problems, all within weeks of each other.

The Lexus's feel like Honor Students, the Lincoln nothing but a drop-out trouble-maker.

Hang in there.

I have a feeling that what LVLEXUS is refering to is the total lack of customer service!
I know, I have been experiencing it over the last few months!
It is contrary to everything that I have ever heard about Lexus. However, Since I started looking into it here and on other Lexus forums, I know that I am not alone!

Granted, mechanical failures will happen! That's not the issue. The problem is how Lexus decides to handle it. My experience has been extremely dissapointing!

Thumbs down Disappointed......Clarification

After all the posts, I realized that mechanical problems eventually will occur. I understand that.

The Major, hit the nail on the head. It is not I am upset at the dealership, nor Lexus Corp. itself. The attitude of Lexus Customer Service is the issue. Also compounding the issue, Lexus Customer Service, sent me an email just prior to closing time in the Torrance, CA office . They stated the if there is no response to their email within 48 hours, they will consider the case incident closed. Let me do the math....closing time on Wed,,,,,CLOSED ON THURSDAY FOR THANKSGIVING, CLOSED ON FRIDAY BECAUSE THURSDAY IS A HOLIDAY, CLOSED ON SAT AND SUNDAY.

If you think Lexus customer service is lousy, try Mercedes Benz of North America and some of the Mercedes service departments.
