Default Driving in 4wd neutral

I was wondering which 4wd selection everyone is currently using to drive under normal conditions. 4wd high or 4wd neutral? Iam asking because, I'm currently using my GX in 4wd neutral but have seen others recommend driving in 4wd high under normal conditions. Thanks

Is there such a thing? I never heard of 4WD Neutral. There should be 4H, 4L and Neutral. I thought Neutral disconnects the driveshafts from the tranny. I think you should leave it in 4H.

I think that you'r misinterpreting the setting of your shifter. I'll bet that you're in 4 Hi (and I think that's all the way towards the back of the truck )
I really think that if it was in 4 neutral, you would not go anywhere!!!

I hope your not referring to that button on the console that has the 4 wheels with an X between them. That is the 4 Wheel lockout. It bypasses the torsen converter (slip differential) and fixes the transfer case into a hard 4x4 mode. This could damage your vehicle if you drive it on asphalt. It is good for dirt roads and mud, but will excessively wear your transfer case and tires while on the road. And one of those items is REAL expensive.

4N or 4wheel drive neutral is just like putting your trans in neutral, you will go nowhere, don't leave your truck in 4Neutral cause even if you park it the wheels are not locked and it will roll away, the 3 settings on the 4wheel drive shifter should be top 4HI, middle 4N (Neutral) and bottom 4LO, you should be driving in the top position in 4HI, even if it looks like your in 4N your not.

Read your owners manual, the section on 4wheel drive and it should clear it up

Thanks for the info. It was my mistake, the gear selector was in high but felt loose so I thought it was in N. But after double checking I realized itwas in High. I will have the dealer look at it, to see what is the cause for the looseness.

The looseness is normal, it should have some movement

dont feel too bad about the mistake...

i'm an army mechanic and alot of drivers come to us saying that their humvees wont move.. and 9 times out of 10 the (4wd) transfer case was on Neutral..

it got to the point where we went around putting all the trucks on neutral to see who was smart enough to figure it out... :P
