Default Xm

Sometimes these postings go back over a year or more. If you search "XM" or the like, make sure you press the button that expands your search back over a long period of time.

Default Xm

Try "satellite" or "serius". They're there. I've seen them. I'm not sure I like this new upgrade the Forum boys did.

It's Sirius Radio. Consumer Reports just gave Sirius the thumbs up for programming, btw. That coupled with Mel Carmazin genius from Viacom Sirius is definitely the way to go.

I didn't make the mount. A fella en Tennessee makes them. I'm thinking of having him make a mount for me.

Here's another picture

Thumbs up Vais Tech

Guys...

These installs look awesome. Great work.

I do have a piece of news which you may know of already anyway, but its exciting enough to repeat.

Vais Tech (www.vaistech.com) replied to my email with some great news. I am waiting for Sirius Radio because I don't think there is any comparison with NFL, NHL, NBA, Howard Stern, 3 satellites to XM's 2 satellites, and music choices (XM's in bed with mostly Clear Channel signed artists). I had XM Radio first so my comparison is based on experience. The signal strength on XM used to cut out all of the time, Sirius doesn't do that. Higher in the sky and have 3 Sats.

Anyway, back to Vais Tech..

Here's my email to them:
> I would like to know if your products can work with a 3rd of 4th
> generation Navigation system in a GX470. I’d like to add Sirius
> Satellite radio to my front end unit and not through a FM
> Modulator. Also, do you offer products, or integration tools that
> can allow tuning/controlling the receiver without having a separate
> head end unit visible for control?

Here's their reply:

Our device works fine with GX470, but Sirius version of our products
is not ready yet, XM is ready. When Sirius version is complete you
won't need a FM modulator, it will be fully integrated into your
factory system, plus you will control of it through your factory radio controls,
and if your radio supports MD changer, you will have text on your
display.

Best regards,

The initial response was they didn't know of the exact release date. But after pressing, they did estimate they were shooting for 4-6 weeks.

I know from experience that software and hardware release dates are difficult to secure until the products get to a 2nd or sometimes third testing stage. We'll see.

Default Sounds very promising

Thanks for the quick answers. 4-6 weeks (or something like that) is very reasonable - I am glad they were talking weeks.months abd bit months/years.

The Vaistech web site lists 1/2005 as the release date. I'll warn you that until a few days ago the web site listed 12/2004 so things seem to still be a bit fluid. On the web page the prices listed add up to something like $370 to get everything you'll need to get the system working with an iPod or an XM radio. That's almost as much as a 40GB iPod. Check out http://www.vaistech.com/aic100i.html .
