Thanks, Cap. I guess I'm wondering what process they use to update the maps. Do they get info from the DOT about new roads?

I was really hoping for the new interface, I don't know if the map updates are worth $288.

Default Beware

Below, is NOT the latest upgrade.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

What is for sale is Version 03.1. The latest upgrade is Version 04.1.

Do we know if NC got updated? I thought I read somewhere that they only updated each part of the country every few years. There's been enough highway construction around Greensboro, Charlotte, and Raleigh that an update would be nice.
I don't know for sure, but I am hopeing the new beltway around the east side of Charlotte is now on the map, I am going to use that as my benchmark. I'll let you know as soon as I travel some of the newer roads if they show up.

How does the new interface differ from the old? What makes it better?

It looks prettier, there are nice new icons for all the things you want/need that are easier to navigate. The system responds faster, almost instantly when you hit a key, rather than thinking for a couple of seconds like mine, and the maps look better, more 3d. The old one will still get you there, but the new one is a little nicer and smoother, that's all.

lexusnc...thanks for your reply. i'm so disappointed that there are no new features with the gen 4 dvd other than the updated maps. if that's the case then i'll probably wait another year or two before updating. please post any new findings if you should come across.

What puzzles me, is that I log onto the website you sent, then look at any 2004/2005 Lexus model and they all use the same DVD.

If that’s the case, then the hardware must be different on the new models, but use the same software on older models.

What do you think ??

Default poi

lexusnc,
does the 4th gen dvd at least update the POI's in addition to the maps. I'm still bummed out about this big time!

I'm just guessing here but it stands to reason that if they are both using the same software that all the informational aspects in the database would show up on both systems. Since POI's are a function available in the current NAV then I see no reason why the update wouldn't update those just as it updates the maps and street names. I think the main difference on the new hardware is the graphics and processing speed. There is at least one missing feature (ability to search via phone number) but that too may be a hardware issue in that is is NOT something that is supported in the current version whereas streets and POI's are.

lexusnc,
When I drove a new TLC last week with the 4th gen nav, it had some nice little icons on the main screen for things like "Emergency" with police and hospital, etc...Does the new ver.4 disc update any of those things?

And have you found any of the major highways or road construction around Charlotte or anywhere else in the state that have been updated? I know there are several pieces of highway between me and the Outer Banks, especially around Raleigh and an extension of 64 in Williamston that are not on the map in my NAV.

I have not had a chance to check Raleigh yet but I have noticed new roads that are in the Winston-Salem area (Where I live) have shown up for the first time. There is no new functionality what so ever that I can tell so no Icons or other such things, sorry
