Do you have any idea if the new features (additional voice commands, etc.) can be had on an '04 by getting a new DVD with updated software, or is the system completely different? I imagine that something like the Bluetooth may be impossible to have on an '04, but am hoping (and praying
) that some of the other features can be obtained through a software upgrade.
Just curious... Thanks in advance!
I don't remember, but I don't think that current GX models have any voice recognition capability. That being the case, since the voice reccognition system is integrated to control audio, Bluetooth, climate control and NAVI, it cannot be had by merely upgrading the DVD. There is hardware to install as well like mics, steering wheel audio control (not the stereo controls), etc.Originally posted by caha14

I actually have voice recognition on my '04, that's why I was asking. Bluetooth I figured might require additional hardware, though.

wait.... the 03's have voice recognition too! (mine does) Or at least voice command options for the NAV/ML... thought I saw something about no voice recognition until '05.... untrue
Gohawks63 was just a bit confused, that's all. The '05 is supposed to have more voice commands, and I was asking about upgrading.

Read my post again. I did preface it by saying I was unsure.Originally posted by caha14

I did read your post properly the first time. What is the difference between being unsure or confused about it?
I didn't mean what I wrote in any negative way...

Everyone keeps talking about having a "C" in their model number. How do I know if the vehicle I am looking at is a "C" or "B" model ?(I know some changes were made after the 9700B models.) Are all models manufactured after a certain date the "C" model? Can you tell by looking at the VIN or is it a different number listed somewhere else on the vehicle? I would appreciate some feedback as I am expecting to close on the vehicle very soon. HELP!!
I think this is about the third time doing this but here it is again. On the window sticker that has the standard equipment and options listed, look at the top right hand corner. You will see:Description : GX470 5-DR SUV
Year/Model : 2004 / 9700E (mine is a 9700E)
Color : ( whatever color yours is)
Serial No. : JTJBT................

Gee gs400jon,
Thanks for the "diplomatic response!" I especially loved the little face. If I had known you had previously posted this three times I never would have asked. I actualled scoured the entire GX 470 library of threads looking for the answer to my question and didn't see it, either here or over at the Edmund's forum.
But in all sincerity, thank you. You have no idea how grateful I am that you bothered responding at all when a lot of folks couldn't be bothered to answer a dumb question posted by a newbie.
Cheers,

Beezy21,
The only reason poeple are concerned with a "B" or a "C" is there was 150lbs added, making the GX470 over 6,000lbs. There is no other need or concern for knowing the model numbered letter. The switchover occurred in November of last year. There was a huge demand and a lot of concern because people were trying to get their purchases in before the end of the year. No worries now.

Not the only reason... the "C" was also the first '04 build to get the new '04 goodies, such as tire pressure monitor, backup camera and the optional KDSS.Originally posted by Longo Lexus

I should have clarified my response and my way of thinking. Beezy21asked if there was any visible way to tell between a B and C car by looking at the VIN in the door jamb. And back then, it was the only way to tell if a car had qualified for the 6,000 lbs weight classification..especially those cars without navigation (yes, lots of people don't need or care for a navigation). The demand was so great, we ran out of C GX470's in early December because so many people were coming in looking for the heavier cars. Assuming one can look on a car to see if it has a backup camera, etc....
Well, I think the big deal with the rush to buy at the end of last year was to get the tax writeoff for a SUV meeting the Gross Vehicle Weight eligibility requirements.
As a side note, this weekend my relatives saw my truck for the first time at a co-ed wedding shower. They, collectively, drive ZO6 Corvettes, 3 series beemer, new TL's, Highlander, assorted minivans and a tired out Porsche. What impressed them the most was the backup camera and the tilting mirrors. I don't use the navigation much at all, but no navigation, no camera.
