Driveshaft Availability
I just got my truck back. My wife drove it back from the dealer and said she didn't feel the thump and that the air conditioning seems a lot colder. I have not actually driven it yet but it seems that the TSB's has corrected the problem.
My advise to those who are having a problem with their dealer is to call Lexus Corp. and complain!!

Still waiting on driveshaft. The part was ordered on or near April 9, 2004, according to my service log/receipt of that date. Talked to the dealer last week and they said the part is on backorder and they will advise me as soon as it comes in. Don't you think it is rediculous that I have waited our 2 months for this part? Complaining seems to get me no where!
Three weeks to the day after the order was placed, my replacement rear drive shaft arrived. It was installed today. It seems to be OK so far, but I didn't have a real problem with the original one. Since some people report the "clunk/thunk" starting after a couple thousand miles, I decided to go with the redesigned spline, drive shaft. At the first servicing, I had mentioned a very, very slight "bump", every 50 to 60 stops, worse case. The dealer said my VIN was on a list for drive shaft replacement and it was ordered that day.
BTW, while on vacation, I drove a Hertz Toyota 4Runner V6, with all wheel drive. It does have a slight "bump" every 30-50 stops.

I have finally driven the GX after getting the four big TSB's corrected and I am satisfied with the fix. It drives like a Lexus now. The four that I got fixed are as follows...
1. Sulfur smell
2. Air condition not getting very cold
3. Driveshaft thump
4. Driveline vibration
The good news is that the fixes do seem to have corrected the problems.

Has anyone that owned the GX470 '04 9700 E models experiencing the clunk or thump. So far I have 3300 miles on my truck and have felt no vibration or clunk. Is this specific to the 9700 C models only?? Mine was bought in April.
The drive shaft was ordered May 8th. I got a call yesterday that it was in (23 June). That is about 6 1/2 weeks to get the part in. I am having it installed tomorrow. I will let you know if it corrects the latent thumping problem....
I hope it does....

I jsut received a new drive shaft last week. It look about six weeks total from ordering the part to getting the phone call saying it was in. Two weeks before it arrived I called Lexus of Rockville, MD for an update. They said it might take up to two months! But two weeks later it showed up. First the good news, the truck was immediately quieter inside and it ran better (kind of like I had had just had an oil change). Now the bad news, three days later the "thump" came back. It's not as bad as before, but it's still there. Rockville said this was the first time they had heard of the fix not working! The GX goes back in on Monday for what I don't know. Help, comments are welcome.
AMVAT,
Lexus of Rockville isnt playing straight with you or me. I told them about this exact same problem 2 weeks ago and the service manager, Barbara, told me the same thing. All I ask for is honesty, I was hoping lexus was going to impress me on this issue. sigh.
