We just got a new driveshaft put in the GX and picked it up Wednesday. So far the thump seems to be completely gone. It's almost eerie taking your foot off the brake after a stop and it not thumping

Apparently they checked the driveline vibration (we didn't ask about it) as I saw on the printout. They did some stuff and balanced the tires. I'll have to check to see if it's gone.

When I reported the rear thump I was told by master tech that it is normal. Any advise on how to get it fixed? Essentially how do I approach service manager to get the drive shaft (or whatever) replacement?
Thanks.

Tell him that other people are getting it warrantied at other dealerships; he should do the replacement or he will lose your business.

Do you know if the new drive shaft is different from stock or stock shafts were deffective? If you do not mind telling me which dealership you go to, I can use them for reference. thx!

I'm pretty sure it's a newly designed driveshaft. Ours was replaced at Lexus of Austin. They are great by the way

I reported a very light, very intermittent tap after braking, that can barely be felt, during the thirty day check at the dealership. The diagnostic tech talked to me and said he would check my VIN against a list he has for drive shaft replacement. Mine was on the list and a replacement drive shaft is on order. I am not sure but believe there has been a design change made to the spline of the original shaft.

Check your repair order, their should be a work order number that you can post here and others can take that and tell their service advisors so they can look it up in the database

I have had my gx for 9000 miles so far. About 1.5 months ago I contacted my Lexus dealer (Lexus of Annapolis Maryland) and I was told by the service manager that he should have the driveshaft in a few days. Well I never heard anything, so I gave him a call today. Could not speak to him of course and was told by his co worker that the driveshafts are limited and hard to get. He stated that it could take a few more weeks before it comes in.

Anyone else getting this story?

Drive Shaft Replacement
Reported the drive shaft thumping myself at 9,000 miles. Service Tech was very helpful, checked on them and they are on backorder. Called Service Manager and he attempted to expedite. Called the Lexus Customer Service Number and they gave same story...waiting here for one to arrive for installation. Feeling more and more like the 2003 models are not at all up to Lexus standards! The dealer has been helpful - Kuni - but, Lexus Corp controls a lot of this.
