DIY: Upgrade Shift Indicator PRND
For those that like the newer style PRND and want to upgrade with out replacing the entire center counsel well I decided to give it a try and Darrel @ Sewell was able to source the part for us
1) Remove the Shift ***. Just twist it counterclockwise and it will unscrew.
2) Remove the center dash piece. Make sure your arm rest is open for this process. You also need to remove the small plastic piece that sits just under our stereo at the very bottom.
*The above steps you can reference our DIY Navi Bypass threads (same process and detailed pics in these threads so I'm not going to duplicate)
3) Once you have the center dash piece removed lay it on something soft so you don't scratch anything up.
remove the 2 screws as in the below pictures:
4) Next remove the plastic connector as shown in the picture. If you flip over your center dash piece you can see the plastic tabs that hold it in place from the top. Simple use a flat head screwdriver and pus them in and push the piece down.
Picture from underneath:
Picture of where to remove the plastic tabs from the top:
5) After you have removed both of the screws & the plastic plug connector push the piece from the top and it will just slide out.
6) Now that I have the PRND removed here is a side by side picture of the old vs. the new.
New one all alone:
7) Now just simply put everything back together:
End results with new style PRND
Huge thanks to our vendor Darrel @ Sewell Lexus for helping me find this part. You can order from them direct if you would like to update yours also. Don't forget to log in to receive your Club Lexus discount

I know most don't like it by my plans are to wrap with CF and remove all the wood pieces. Sorry I'm just not a fan of wood interiors and never have. I would prefer black or silver trim. My center piece is a little scratched up so this will take care of this and add extra protection.
I found a few places that you can upgrade your steering wheel "or" another solution if you want to do the black carbon fiber is to change your core to the OEM black. This will match and flow just fine IMO. I have been quoted $400 for the faux and $800 for the real deal. Both also are to have new leather done at the same time.

I really like the finish on the updated version, but I noticed that Lexus also changed the shape of the center dash piece (in 2008+), which leaves a wedge shaped gap at the bottom right hand corner of the shift indicator on pre-'08's. Kinda ruins it for me since I don't plan on doing the CF cover.
Nice find though, and nice DIY. I appreciate these types of mods.

^ thanks for the pic, I was wondering if that was the case. Thanks for ruining my day j/k
Its not as clean looking but I think it will work for those that want to upgrade. Maybe we can make some sort of piece (F-Sport or something) that can fill the void if someone wanted. This way if you don't want to vinyl its another solution.
I'm sure someone can come up with something creative

True, some sort of insert might look good there. Just for kicks, I looked up the cost of the center dash piece ... just the flat plastic piece with the wood veneer. $890!

Well I will take an A- for effort. It doesnt fit perfect but you can easily cut something an place in that voided area or you can spend 1200 for the full replacement
Mine does light up. That's what the plug is for. Looks nicer IMO. Not sure what I'm going to do with the void area.
