Default cup holder divider with rubber modifications

I ordered a cup holder divider from sewell lexus for my 98 GS400. When I got it one side it had a thin slit (like the stock divider) but the other side had a wide slit. On a 98 cup holder the divider has a narrow slit on both sides. When I installed it it fit but it was loos and came out really easy, not very good. Here is what I did

Notice that there are two thin ribs on each side of the cup holder to hold the divider, Notice the comparison in the second image of the stock divider vs the new divider. picture 3 shows the opposite side. For a good tight fit you need both sides to be thin. I cut the thin section out of the original divider and slid it into the wide section of the new divider. Now it fits nice and tight as it should.

When you mentioned the wide slit in another thread, I had no idea what you were talking about. Now I do - that thing is huge!

thats so strange they would make the opening that wide to begin with knowing the slits were that thin. but atleast you got it to work! gj.

the first gs I had had the narrow slits but no rubber...

and my current one looks like the one with the rubber and wide slits....
but being that its rubber, it also can adjust for cups or bottles that are a little wider.

that's where the wide portion comes into play.
at least in my case.
