Default 2001 Mark Levinson Amp Cooling Fan Replacement

2001 Mark Levinson Amp Cooling Fan Replacement

It's been a while since I posted a DIY, been rather busy starting a family. Daughter is ten months old, trying to walk and talk. Kids are great, looking forward to making another.

Loud noise in the trunk on warm days after listening to stereo, turned out to be the amp cooling fan.
It was still turning, but the bearing was failing, would probably have seized eventually.
The noise was awful, thought it was my fuel pump at first (before I realized the noise was in the trunk).

Fan is 12v 30mm x 10mm fan.
Installed model is a United Pro D3010H12B. They did not respond to my friendly email.

Newegg had an equivalent for cheap. Evercool FAN-EC3007M12CA.

Here's the amp opened up.
Originally the logo on top was part of a much large piece of metal, which was taped over all of the screws on top. I couldn't remove it without destroying it, so I cut out the logo and taped it back on.

Here is the old fan removed but still plugged in. The fan operates as an intake fan.
There are three screws that hold the fan to the chassis from the outside. New fan is installed on the left.

Here is the new fan installed but not yet plugged in. The leads came wrapped just so, the perfect length.

The replacement fan is a three wire fan (yellow allows rpm detection), but the red and black are together in the correct order and fit right on. Yellow remains unconnected.

This was such an easy replacement.
I ran the amp until it warmed, and the fan came on as expected -- silent.
