Default GS300 Octane Question

Does the 2nd Gen Lexus GS300 REQUIRE or RECOMMEND Premium (91) Gas?
I don't own one so I can't look in the manual nor can I look at my gas cap.
I am sure the GS400 and GS430 require 91 octane,
but I am curious to know if the GS300 doesn't knock on 89 octane.

Thanks!

I've used good tier 89 and 87 when I've been broke for the past few weeks..No knocking yet..Just feels slower and I don't romp on it at all then; and just gently take off/slow down.

Louie you do know you can run 91 without adverse effects correct?Even High compression factory OE engines can run on 91 without issues

the car will not run right if you dont put the right gas in it

as far as g300 iam sure u can get a way with reg gas ?
Not true. You can run lower octane, but your engine will not reach peek performance. The ecu retards the timming, so you will not get any knocking.
I do only use premium because saving $4 a fill is not much etherway and it would be pointless to have horsepower adding perfomance parts and cheap out on gas. However my girl always uses 86 on her IS, which is the same engine as the GS300 and her car runs fine. She rather spend the extra $4 at Sturbucks that's her fuel

I've been using 89 octane ever since the gas spike. Yes, the car does respond slower, but I don't even need the performance around where I live.

I believe most all performance lexus cars require the 91 octane. The engine will detonate and run crappy. You might be able to get away with running med grade every other tank, as long as you can mix it with 93/prem.

I run 89 in my GS3, and throw in a tank of premium from time to time without an issue

Yeah its about the same here in TN.

You know 90% of the lexus I test drove and looked at stated premium fuel on the cap. So if you can run cheaper without issues, then I would do it. I am all for not buying top notch stuff all the time too. Of course I havent had this lexus long enough to know yet.

Higher the octane the faster and more easily it combusts

I would personally stick with 91 +, it's not a big difference in $$ if you fill up with prem. and not reg. - max of $10
