It is necessary to get an extended warranty for a Lexus?
Believe me, I'm the kind of guy who ruminates and researches every single detail of a big purchase. Buying a car sight unseen is against my DNA, but the relative scarcity of the GSF forced me to reconsider... especially since I had my heart set on a USB with circuit red interior. In actuality though, buying out of state probably ended up working in my favor as I managed to find an exceptional pre-purchase inspector in Texas that did a more thorough job than I ever could. This is key! Be careful with national car inspection services like Lemon Busters, as their technicians may not be well trained and their inspections could be very superficial. The guy I used basically rolled around in a mobile auto shop. He carried with him a professional grade OBD2 reader with manufacturer's software, his own mobile car lifts to thoroughly inspect the undercarriage, and even an elcometer (which measures paint thickness) to identify any hidden body work from undisclosed accidents. When you have a positive report this comprehensive, a lot of your potential fears are negated.

As for an extended warranty, my research definitely corroborates what just about everyone says... Lexus (Lexi?) are as dependable as their vaunted reputation. While most who purchase the warranty will never make their money back (actuarial sciences prove this), having the plan can provide peace of mind, which for some, is worth the expense. For someone like me, who tends to keep his vehicles around for a long time, buying an extended warranty seems like a good idea.

That said, I have found virtually NO major faults in my research of the GSF. Other than the high-speed fuel pump (which was recalled and replaced by Lexus), this car has had absolutely NO major reported issues. The platform is based on the tried and true GS, which is currently in it's 4th generation and virtually flawless. The V8 has basically been around since 2008, when the first ISF came out and has been refined throughout the years. It will likely represent the pinnacle of normally aspirated Lexus V8 engineering and no more will be made in the near future due to CAFE standards, emphasis on fuel efficiency, smaller displacement engines, and electrification.

This is the end of an era, gentleman.

Send me a message with your contact info and if you don’t have any luck in your area then we can talk. Take care!

Out of state, sight unseen, purchases aren't for everyone - it takes a little more effort and coordination but, again, it opens up availability and pricing options if your local market is short on GSFs (or tends to price them at a premium). The research and searching is always fun. Enjoy the process, the right car will come along - eventually.

Good luck!
