I'm getting 20-21MPG averages so far in this GS F. Most frustrating is the 15 gallon tank capacity. Anyone have a friend that builds tanks? This beast could use another 5 gallons for a 400 mile range. The current 300 mile range is horrible.

hey, i'll take what you're getting... i'm getting around 15-16 (80-90% city driving). totals about 220-ish miles before i fill up (right before the gas light comes on).

 

Things I've noticed in the first few months regarding mpg:

1. I've never used ECO drive mode.
2. The engine will only go into ECO efficiency---I believe which is the Atkinson mode (indicated on dash) if you are in ECO driving mode or in NORMAL driving mode.
3. On my 600+ mile trip (NORMAL mode) driving home from the dealer, I went 6+ hours on the first tank (5-10 over limit, getting used to car, avoiding cops with out of state temp tags), a few WOT passes and got 29.5mpg. 2nd tank it started getting dark, and I actually averaged 30.4mpg
4. If I'm in traffic and not going to get anywhere quickly, I'll let it putter along at low rpm in high gears and get good mpg.
5. Drive aggressively in Sport/Sport+ and you'll get 15mpg.
6. My commute is a balance of highway and fun backroads, so mixing the two with some WOT fun in there, I'm getting between 20-23mpg combined. The car is very Jeykll/Hide.
7. The ECO efficiency light will even stay lit under light throttle into the upper 80s.
8. The exhaust rumble makes it hard not to rev it all the time!

 

i average about 16-17 mpg. only time I'm in normal is when i forget to put it into sport/sport + mode. Most of the time I'm in manual as well.

 

What gets me is people buying this sort of car and expecting good gas mileage enjoy the F###ing thing. My friends hurricane is shocking on gas.

 

I average around 245 miles on mine and Im good with it. No need for a bigger tank :-)

 

Agreed. The nice thing about this car is that depending on your mood, you can get 25-30mpg on the highway if you're in a relaxing mood, 20mpg mixed, 15mpg when you're agrressive, and <10mpg if you decide to track it.

 

^^^^Totally agree. Plus, a larger tank would only make the car heavier so the only other option (that make sense to me) is increasing fuel efficiency. Good luck with that one...

I do feel you pain regarding having to seemingly stop often for fuel.

Saves a lot of GAS especially during HIGHWAY

 

RCF has the same tank size, something to consider or realize is that the low fuel light comes on while there is still 3 gallons in the tank.. Typically I see 283 miles on the tank when that light comes on, and I drive another 60 miles or so, and the tank will still only take 13.5 -14.0 gallons at the fill. So 350 miles range with mixed city/highway.. When I drove cross country last summer I was seeing 400+ per fill.

If you want long range, buy a hybrid.. My wife gets 600+ miles out of her Camry Hybrid.

 

I just drove from Iowa to Atlanta. About 2 1/2 tanks of fuel. I got almost 400 miles when the low fuel light came on, and it took about 14 gallons to fill. The tank isn't small, but it's not a 25 gallon monster either. It's the right size for a performance sedan, or the weight at full tank would be ridiculous. It's already no lightweight.

 

The GSF is really good for what it is. If you drive normal and not agressive then the mpg will be acceptable near the 20s and with eco mode on you still get a few mpg more. For me, I start the car, drive and enjoy it. If gas/range is an issue, you are probably in the wrong car. Sports car have smaller gas tank capacity. Just enjoy it and stop looking at the mpg screen.

 

I commented on how small the fuel tank was. Not that the MPGs are unacceptable. I would like to be able to go 400 miles or pretty close before refueling. That's all. I truly love the car.

That would require a 25 gallon tank which has ~150lbs of fuel in it when full. A 17 gallon tank has ~100lbs of fuel in it when full. That's why we don't have a tank that big.

 

One gallon of unleaded fuel is approximately 6lbs. So five more gallons would add 30lbs in fuel weight, and ten more gallon would add 60lbs in fuel weight. Sure the tank would need to be larger and accommodate all the space of the tank, however the tank weight change itself would not be more than another 10-15 pounds. Perhaps the room just doesn't exist underneath, who knows?
