Best scan tool for the GS
I've been thinking about upgrading my scan tool, but there are so many different ones out there, some better than others, apparently sometimes for particular makes. Does anyone have any suggestions for a moderately priced (no more than $300) tool that offers the most bang for the buck for Lexi /Toyotas? Thanks!

I have used the VeePeak ODBII scanner, think it was $10 off Amazon and the ODBFusion app. The app has additional Toyota/Lexus diagnostics. It doesn't log fast enough to replicate what you need to adjust the car's tune but it will allow you to see what your car is doing, verify codes, clear codes and some good data logging.

Your response brings up another question. Are the dongles as good as a “ real,” handheld scanner? Do the apps really do all that a handheld does? Thanks for your reply.

Depends on what you are looking to accomplish. If you want something simple to log some basic things and look at codes you will probably be good to go. Think of the processing power of your iPhone compared to the Autozone code scanner. When my car goes back on the dyne they are supposed to hook it up with a https://www.tactrix.com/ cable. We shall see if that gets the data points logged faster. Will let you know by Friday.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. I have an Ultraguage MX in my Tacoma and really like it. Was considering getting one for the GS as well. It's customizable and may take some time to get setup properly, and I don't think it logs data except for fuel but rather outputs current values. I have the tranny temp monitored on the Tacoma but I had to look up the programming values for it and play around with making it work. Not many scanners will do the tranny temp.
Another option to look into, and I believe I saw the programming values for Lexus tranny temps on the web somewhere.

I'm looking for something that offers comprehensive scanning and CEL re-set capabilities. I don't mind a hand-held unit (I have a low-priced one now), just want to be able to accurately check and clear as needed.
