Car buying help
Hello everyone
Im looking to buy a new Lexus car in the near future.
I live in Hamilton, New Zealand and have my own business.
Because of the nature of my business, I drive a lot and do a lot of highway miles. I usually do 1500-2000 kms every week or 900-1200 miles.
I want a conformtable car and It has come down to two choices -
2013 GS 350
2008 LS 460
both of them are in my budget range - NZD 25,000
Pros and cons in my view -
GS is 5 Years newer so I will get the newer entertainment system and better resale in future (I think) also the fuel consumption will be less.
I test drove the LS and is just so damn comfortable. I’ve never been in a car so comfortable. Also I liked the fact that left side rear and front seat combines can become a reclined bed with back massage.
I will keep the car for upto 350,000 kms and then sell them.
Also I’ve been told that because most of my kms are highway I can stretch my service intervals to 15,000kms instead of 10,000kms.
Can anyone tell me their experience with the GS and which can would they pick ?

You really can't beat the LS in terms of comfort, but with 5 more years under its belt, wear and tear does become a concern. Although I wouldn't be concerned with an LS mechanically, the air suspension (if so equipped in NZ) could need replacement coming up soon. That said, if you plan on doing any spirited driving at all, the GS is a very nicely balanced car, and is still decently comfortable.

Its not like the GS is an uncomfortable car - its just that the LS is the more comfortable car by comparison. The LS has that super smooth 4.6L V8 and is built for cruising along.
If i had to choose though, i'd go for the 2013 GS with the Luxury Package/18" wheels to get the best overall ride quality and a newer car with more updated tech (an F-Sport GS will ride a bit stiffer so keep that in mind).

I have a LS430 and a GS350, some argue the LS430 is more comfortable than the LS460. It comes down to if you want it more luxury or more sporty. The LS460 will of course be more comfortable, but not as sporty. The LS430 will also have more space and leg room in the back. The GS350 will have a louder engine while the LS is mostly silent. It sounds like the LS460 you were in is maybe a ultra luxury package if it has the massagers.

Why aren't you looking at an ES350 from 2014 or 2015? You will get even more updated technologies as it will be 1-2 years newer than the GS. It will be more comfortable than the GS but less than LS. Also, its maintenance cost will be lower than both GS and LS.

I made this exact decision a year ago.
The LS was too big and squishy after driving a 2001 GS430 for thirteen years.
Even with the air suspension in sport mode, I just missed the road feel of my GS.
I bought a 2013 GS350 Luxury AWD w 72k mi, and it's just freaking awesome.
Dial it down for a smooth comfy ride, dial it up to toss it around.
I have opted to drive versus fly on a few occasions just to spend more time behind its wheel.
