2016 GS F Reviews
My head knows that the move to turbocharged engines is inevitable. The performance, fuel economy and environmental advantages are just too great to ignore. But that being said, there is nothing that makes me all tingly in all the right spots as the sound of a good, well tuned NA motor at wide open throttle. And this is one of those motors.

Its German competitors in the mid-size segment accelerate up to a second faster and even offer launch control systems, but let's be honest here: who needs that? In this performance class, one is already too fast for law enforcement. Much more crucial, however, is how the power of the GS-F is delivered, and yes, that is really impressive.

The GS F certainly starts with the right clay to make a sport sedan worthy of the road and track. I’ve found the current GS to be more fun to drive than the traditional ride and handling benchmark in the class, the BMW 5 Series, which has become somewhat paunchy in its middle age. For the GS F, Lexus, improves upon that already worthy structure with four additional underbody braces.

Beyond the unique aesthetics, Lexus says it paid a good deal of attention optimizing the GS F’s aerodynamics, starting with carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) molding in the lower front lip. The flared front fenders come with grooved liners and air outlets to reduce pressure and turbulent air coming off the tires, while there are undertrays below the engine and near the car’s midsection to send cool air towards the rear differential. In back is another undertray, which is angled to act like a diffuser. There are also stabilizer fins in place to reduce turbulence.

The Lexus GS F is Proof Power Isn't Everything

When it became clear that Lexus was going to give its mid-size GS sedan an F suffix, the one question that seemed to be asked more than any other was How much horsepower will it have?

I'd be interested to know when Lexus will get back into the 500hp club myself. I hope they don't go out just shy of that with all the "demands" of turbos being mandated. Before 50 I will have a 500+ hp car to experience once in my life. Then to share that with my wife? Even better.
Out on public roads, the GS F's good ride qualities register. It soaks up bumps instantly with no loss of composure, no deviation, no rattle through the steering. Not once in a more than 200km of driving did the suspension jar or bottom, although Australia's rougher roads will be a greater test.
