My ES set to auto was great! The GS seems to be a little weird to me. I'm convinced you could get it perfect if they let you tweak the fan and auto seat heater/cooler a little from default like they do with the auto lights.

Tip for those hot days...when you get in, immediately roll all 4 windows down*. This will let the majority of the heat escape, and allow the car to cool faster...especially if you have it on recirculate.
*Or if your fob is set correctly, you can press and hold the unlock button as you're walking up and all windows will automatically open.

Since this topic has come up again, I noticed my A/C never switches automatically from Recirculate to Fresh. That causes it to blow really cold to get up to speed. I usually turn it to Fresh a couple of minutes after I get in the car. Then, it's perfect.
