Default OBD II scanner

Hi all,

I am thinking of buying a consumer DIY-grade OBD II scanner. I wonder whether you folks have any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

What do you want the scanner for? Simply to read codes or do you want to read live engine data and take logs? What about care customize settings like what the dealership is able to do?

I bought this one seven years ago, still works great with Torque on my phone: https://a.co/d/3z0QTUC

I also have this wired one I bought for some specific reason I can't recall, it works well: https://a.co/d/dGr4wJ6

And if you just want a techstream cable, this one works: https://a.co/d/dGr4wJ6

I paid $30 for an obdII to USB cable that included techtream several years ago. Nothing beats having the full dealer diagnostic software on your laptop.

Thanks for the response. Among the usual diagnostic readings, I want to get a check on whether the electronics of the vehicle is working normally. I don't have any warning lights on the dash but would like to do a health check.

Ok, I'm not aware of any obd elm327-style readers that will work on the dealer-level you need.

Carista has a good two-way plug-in, which is fine. OBDlink MX is however one of the highest speed readers around and if the firmware is up to date you can use it two-way like the carista model.

But to do diagnostics like you want, your looking at getting techstream.

I don't know any "reliable" sources of which to aquire such a thing.... maybe someone can PM you (and me) how to do so.
