Default Compass displays in split screen w/ backup camera view when in reverse

With my NAV map in full screen mode if I put the car in reverse gear a compass is displayed in the right-hand split screen alongside my backup camera view - and Latitude & Longitude coordinates of my current location are displayed underneath the compass.

This compass (with Latitude & Longitude coordinates) is only displayed when (a) the NAV map is in full screen mode and the car is (b) in reverse gear [edit] and (c) only if my seatbelt is buckled.

I think having Latitude and Longitude coordinates of your current location readily available could be very helpful if you needed to tell someone exactly where you are currently located in case of an accident, breakdown or some other event, needing help.

I can't find anything in the owners manual about this feature to have the compass (with current location Lat/Long coordinates) displayed when in reverse gear...

Question: If your 4GS has full screen NAV map capability, do you get a compass (and your Latitude and Longitude coordinates) displayed in the right-hand split screen alongside the backup camera view when you put the car in reverse [edit] (with the seatbelt buckled)?

Never even noticed this after 3.5 years. Another new thing to discover?

@ItzFilyO - Have you tried it? Does your GS 350 do this?

@ItzFilyO - You asked and you will receive!

Here it is...

Note: I tried not buckling my seatbelt to see if the compass and Lat/Long coordinates still displayed, and it does. There appears to be a slight delay before the compass and coordinates are displayed, so that's probably why I [mistakenly] thought the seatbelt had to be buckled before it displayed.

Note: I suspect the round red NAV destination marker (near the 'S' (South) on the outskirt of the moveable round compass is just to indicate that Latitude and Longitude coordinates are available and being displayed..

The Red "Target" icon is actually telling you the Cardinal Point direction your programmed
destination is relative to your current position and direction. Clear out your destination from
the Nav and the Red Target will disappear.

You checked both the regular owners manual AND the navigation supplement, right?

I had to find out how to do something with the HVAC system info that was displaying there via the supplement. Could be a tidbit in there about this compass.

I will check my own car after work in a few hrs.

@mcomer - I never keep previous destinations programmed in the NAV. No programmed destination. I always delete (cleanup) any destinations. So, why is the red target still visible? I have a number of POIs in my address book.

I think mine is all blank and only shows the parking assist if I get close to an object. Let me check again later. So seatbelt has no effect on this?

Make sure your map is set to full screen.

My seatbelt did not need to be buckled as i originally thought...

On second thought, I think mine also shows the mini navigation map like BM's car but I will verify this. Damn it looks like I know nothing about my GS.

In that side screen, when you are seeing the map, there should be an arrow up top (if I remember correctly) to change it from the map to the compass.
