Default Wiper keeps smacking my A pillar

I have a 2013 GS350 with the cold weather package. I'm aware that the wipers can be put into winter or summer mode by pulling up on them.

It seems over time that part is malfunctioning and during heavy rain when the wipers go to full speed the driver side wiper goes to far and it's the A pillar. I'm not sure how to even begin fixing this. Do I new arms? Is the motor spindle shot? What needs changing?

Anyone else had this issue? Id appreciate any insight.

Take a photo of your wipers in the resting position - in normal mode and not winters mode.

I wonder if my ‘15 GSF has this feature as my driver side wiper doesn’t go close enough to the pillar. Should I search thru the manual again?

Typically all wiper's arms on cars are attached to a post coming from a windshield wiper motor. The posts are fixed and cannot be adjusted. However, the wiper arm can be pulled off the post with its geared surface and the wiper rotated slightly so it's on a notch either right or left of its initial position. To keep it from stroking too far to the right side, pull it off and reposition one notch to the left. Some of these will have a nut on the base of the arm so you will need to open the hood, and remove the nut before you can pull up the arm to move it one notch over.

If your manual doesn't say anything about wiper arm position, or you have trouble getting the arm off, go to any auto parts store and any clerk will be happy to do it for you, or show you what to do, at no charge (since they want you to come back for new blades). They do this a lot and can do it in no time.

You can try first to change the setting from winter to summer by just pulling the arm down when it's off and in the bottom position. It will then click down a notch. This by itself will change seasonal settings on some models. It won't change the original setting where it was hitting a pillar in, say, the summer position.

Is there some point to different wiper positions? Isn’t (the) point to clear as much windshield as possible no matter which season it is?

The wiper stops at the same point on the windshield regardless of the two different starting positions.

My driver side wiper stops 6-7” from the edge of the glass at the top and about 3-4” at the bottom. Seems like it could go a bit farther but doesn’t.

I would post a picture I just haven't gotten time to take one. Even if I did they still sit at the same spot. I could make a video showing what's going on. It's kinda annoying and I'm not sure whats causing it.

I know my GS has winter and summer mode. I made sure the wipers and down in the summer mode as I have the heated windshield option. Any ideas on what to check? The wipers have never been removed as far as I know.

Can you confirm summer mode sits 100% on the correct spot as per specification ?

Wrong, at least on my ‘15. I finally got around to check the ridiculous feature of the winter and summer wiper positions and mine were low. There was no click or any sound but after raising both wipers to the winter position I turned them on. Now the driver side wiper sweeps clear to the pillar perfectly.

hello

Changing the setting from winter to summer may be done by simply dragging the arm down when it's off and in the bottom position. Then it will go down a notch. Some models' seasonal settings will alter as a result of this alone.

It sweeps perfect in both positions.

Why would I want to play such childish game over a trivial topic?

Just because the wipers on your car don’t work as it should now it makes us all wrong?
