Question Those with Lexus Option 3M Paint Protection Film Installed

Those with the Lexus Option 3M Paint Protection Film installed - I see that there are many options available; for the front 24" of the hood, for the driver & passenger side fenders, for the left & right side mirrors, and maybe for the headlights. I'm curious to know how this film is holding up (based on where it's installed on your car) and whether you think it's a worthy option to have to protect the paint.

The film held up great until I changed my bumper 2 years ago. 24" of hood is terrible because you constantly get a dirt line on the edge of the film. If your going to do the hood do the full hood, same goes for the fenders. It is well worth it, Lexus paint is soft and this film protects against 95% of rock chips. Also there was no discoloration or yellowing over time.

I do however recommend XPEL Ultimate, that's what I got 2 years ago after changing bumpers. Avoid Suntek ppf.

I highly recommend doing full hood, full fenders, full bumper, headlights, and side mirrors. I sold my 5 year old base bumper and the paint was in mint condition under the PPF, not a single rock chip. The bumper had about 90k miles at the time.

Mine came from Lexus $429 option with only the front section of hood and front fender corners and that's it. After it being on the car since new it's starting to get a little cloudy. The rest of the car is XPel and it still looks as good as new. I would not recommend 3M, the quality is nowhere near XPel. The XPel has been on the car since new.

Have you looked into getting the film yet on your 18 BC?

My car was ordered with the 3M paint protection film option and the car was delivered to the ordering Lexus dealership with it installed.

Didn't the side mirrors get the protection film?

The 3M on mine is starting to look somewhat cloudy and my GS lives in a climate controlled garage.

I had to make this decision when w got our new 2020 Kia. Which ppf to go with? I went with 3m again as its been on my 13 GS from when it was new. IThe 3m on the GS had started to be a little cloudy. So I searched about what could be done. I saw a few videos like below and was happy to see how well it could be buffed and re-shined. The vid I actually saw showed using polishing compound on a Black car with Clear Bra. I originally thought I had Clear bra but tracked down that it was actually 3m, unless they are the same? IDK?

I heard alot about Xpel, but after researching came to feel like 3m had been around longer and had many overall positive reviews. So I went with 3m again and figured if it ain't broke, dont fix it. After working on cleaning, heat gun, and polishing the old 3m film on my 13 GS side by side it looks just as good, and new as the new 3m ppf on the Kia. When ever I have to use a product be it spray Glue, a material, or other if there is a 3m product as a choice, that's what I choose to use and it never lets me down. For reference the 3m film on my GS350 is 8 years old.

I have the exact same opinion. I installed Xpel on a 2013 Honda Pilot when new on the headlights and it still looks new. The stuff is amazing. Also installed Xpel in 2016 on the Lexus headlights and it looks new. Can't even tell it's there.
The Lexus installed stuff on my 2014 hood front and fenders is aging. I would recommend Xpel and NOT the OEM stuff all day long.

Any product can have problems. You can have lots of people say they haven't had a problem. That's not at all a scientific study, nor a in depth review. When people spend good money on something its human nature to say that they decision is the best.

3m and Xpel have their problems, and experienced long term installers post about them all the time. Nothing is perfect.

XPEL Ultimate > 3M, I've had both.
