That sounds like slapping the GS badge on a completely different car.
I had a 1983 Dodge Charger. It had 84 horsepower. It had nothing in common with either today's Dodge Charger Hellcat or the 1960s muscle car Dodge Charger except for the name.

First, a GS in a hydrogen format is the Mirai, which is only sold in limited markets and with huge incentives. To make a Lexus sedan (GS or otherwise) that is hydrogen powered, they would have to push it further upmarket and make it substantially more expensive than the Mirai, and still only in a limited market.
Second, sedan sales aren't what they used to be and Lexus already figured out that they have difficulty in selling two mid sized sedans, so I don't see them bringing one back, especially one with limited appeal.
This would be much more believable if it said the GS was coming back as a full BEV, but even then I'm not so sure.
My wager is on the first all electric car being named GS. It will compete in between the model 3 and S. The name is iconic and put Lexus on the map back in the 90s

GS sales were god awful the last few years it was in production and just recently got discontinued. Why would they rush to bring the name of a sales failure back? Lol. If they come out with something big like a fully electric sedan in the next few years it would probably be under the ES name or a completely new name for buzz and hype

I think the original first gen GS was quite a failure itself but it was the second gen GS that really propelled Lexus' image overall and made them a desirable brand. I would say that the 4th gen GS really lost its personality and was blended into all the other models. Maybe the 5th gen GS will be totally different and bring a totally new sense of excitement to the line and possibly brand as well.
If Lexus did not like the low sales of the last GS, wait until they ruin it and make it a Hydrogen or EV car, it will sell in single digits per month like the hybrid did.
They should bring back the GS especially considering how poorly the LS500 sells and has been received but make the GS into more of a low slung sexy sedan like a CLS so they can put the LS back to being a traditional lux sedan with a V8.
Ev sales up 280% in Europe, crazy how that's the move. I couldn't believe when suv sales took first place but that's what people want.
To keep the lights on you have to supply the need.
