Default ~~~Filters~~~

What's up Lexus drivers!?

When changing your cabin filter, do y'all change the engine air filter as well?

Also, OEM vs 3rd party is there any difference?

I see a lot of people recommended K&N

For cabin, check every 10-15K miles and for engine, check every 20-30K miles and replace if dirty. If u live in a hot area and park outside, the engine filter can get a bit crispy after 2 years, so I'd replace regardless of the miles if it's old.

If u have an FSport model, get the blue FSport engine filter to back up the badge. Otherwise just get the regular OEM filter. I always use OEM filters for both.

Denso is OEM. That's what I buy. Not overly priced online.

I saw the blue filter for engine but not for cabin.

That's accurate?

Yeah, for the engine only.

Filters are cheap. I change both every spring.

I check both of the air filters in my car while performing the 5000 miles service. I don't drive that much, typically 8000 - 9000 miles a year, so that's pretty much an annual filter check for me.

So far, I have been changing my cabin air filter every 25k miles which, with my driving, is about 3 years. I believe the factory recommendation is to change the cabin air filter at 30k miles, but I personally don't think that's a good idea and 2 - 3 years is decent enough time for a cabin air filter to last. Besides, the cabin air filter costs less than 20 bucks, so that's not too much of an expensive maintenance part. As for the brand of filter goes, for cabin air filter I go with either Purolator or FRAM, because both of them are readily available to me, are reasonably priced and are pretty good for filtering airborne stuff to enter the cabin.

For the engine air filter, I have replaced the OEM one with K&N back in 2017 around 10k miles, so I don't have to worry about replacing that anymore, just wash and re-lube and good to go. But, I do check that every 5000 miles as well.

Default Air Filters

K&N allows more air and dirt into your engine causing more wear. If you must use a max airflow, reusable air filter, use AFE. AFE filters have additional layers of cotton to filter dirt better than K&N. Research this topic on Bobistheoilguy.com.

I just use OEM, Denso, Wix, Mann, Puraltor, etc. replacement filters for naturally aspirated engines and AFE for turbo and supercharged applications . Reusable filters are a pain as they need to be washed, dried and carefully re-oiled.

Filters are always a delicate balance of flow vs. filtration.

I buy OEM engine air filter, cheap and good.
For the A/C filter, they're actually not required, sold as a pollen filter in other cars as optional. I change mine every 1-2 years with the cheapest home brand available. The genuine ones are quite expensive.

I have GS-350 F-Sport and I just ordered the OEM that came up when I put in my model. WHat is the blue one?

Lexus F-Sport air filter is blue. Doesn't come factory. It's from their performance catalog.

Can you use the regular stock one on the GS-350 F-Sport? Or do you have to use the F-Sport one?

Regardless of f-sport, base or hybrid, they all come with regular paper filter. They don't come with f-sport filters.

I use OEM filters for all. Cabin could be third party.
