Front windshield replacement recommendations for Houston
I need to get my 2014 gs350 front windshield replaced, im thinking of going through my insurance since it may be cheaper. Dealership said they dont go through insurance, only out of pocket. Anyone recommend a place in Houston, TX?
Thanks!
Thanks!
What a timely post.. I just noticed a cracked windshield on my 2015 350 GS F Sport. Likely caused due to the snow and ice we have had in DFW, TX area. Typically, I would go to a third party auto glass shop as this is usually a cheap replacement. However, my vehicle as rain sensing wipers, hence I am not certain that an aftermarket replacement work work.
Can anyone confirm if this is accurate? Also, curious on the approx cost of this replacement, if I had to do it without going through insurance. Thanks!

Those features are how I get them to approve an OEM windshield. I have had to do 2. One was through Safelite (ordered from Lexus), the other through the dealer.
If I recall an OEM is around 1500. Someone can correct me if I am misremembering.

Safelite is absolutely horrible. I tried to give them a second chance with the second one and had the same problems.
Called and got everything approved. They had to order the windshield. All good.
Scheduled appointment, showed up, they forgot to go get the windshield.
Asked them to go get it, offered to wait as I was leaving town for business the next day.
Lady from Safelite actually said it was a good thing they didn't have it because I wouldn't have to worry about it getting cracked again on my business trip. Yes, really.
They Refused to go pick it up. Called me two hours later stating the windshield had been picked up.
Went back. Install went fine.
7 months later a car show boating threw a rock.
Called Safelite and got everything approved. They ordered the windshield again. Fine.
Scheduled appointment, showed up, guess what, they forgot to pick up the windshield.
They said they would have it the next day. Came back, still not there.
Canceled appointment, went to Lexus, had a loaner, smooth.

When you get the windshield replaced with an OEM part, I would also recommend you have them use a new windshield frame.
While this may not be an issue with our Lexus cars I was able to get my insurance to cover an expensive OEM windshield replacement on a BMW 740i (E38).
The BMW dealer would only do the work if they replaced the frame also, and advised that reuse of the old frame would result in wind noise.
My insurance wouldn't cover the dealer, they did cover Safelite doing the work with an OEM windshield (BMW logo), but not a new frame. Unfortunately the wind noise was real and an annoyance I lived with until I sold the car.

Yeah I had the dealer replaced mine last year and I paid for everything out of pocket first and insurance reimbursed everything minus the $500 deductible. Not too bad actually cause these things + calibration and labor are really expensive.
