Have you noticed the black starting to fade? I noticed mine has started to fade to a gray. I might paint it if I'm bored. I didn't notice it until I pulled it out cause someone asked to look at it.
BTW, I don't think the premium is worth it. I get asked about it a lot. I have the regular texture one myself.
No fading. When I first installed it, that was one of my concerns. Now 2.5 years later, still looks like new. But I am garage-parked at home and always use a sunshade when parked at work so very little UV actually gets to the interior. I pulled it this morning to get a close up look, and in natural light without the flash, you can see the color is more flat and does not have the sparkles the first pics did. I also took a look at the surfaces where the mount met the dash pieces, no pressure marks, scuffs or damage either.

The very first day when installed, I did not think I would be able to live with that gap either. I was thinking of trimming or shaving that part to get a tighter fit, but since the gap's not noticeable from the driver's seat, and only from the side if I got close up to it, no big deal... I lived with it. Also the pics above, zoomed in, exaggerated the gap, it's not so noticeable in natural lighting. And the finish isn't really as bad or "contrasty" as the prior pics depicted (damn those zoomed in, flashed pics).

Hey DuB... wasn't this your design? If it was, a big "Thanks!" for efforts. In my opinion, this is one of the better phone mounts I've ever used in car.
+1 on this mount. Had this for about 6 months and also agree its one of the best mounts. Love the location as well. I thought I'd also be OCD on the potential gap, but it is minor and hasn't bothered me at all.
