I have a 2013 gs350 AWD and there seems to be this squeaking noise coming from the front left wheel. I attached a video of the noise. At times there isn’t as much squeak but more clank. I checked all the ball joints and bushings and all look fine! There is no play in the wheel when jacked up and hands on 12-6 positions. There is a slight bit of play at the 3-9 positions but there is the same amount of slight play in that position on the right wheel as well. What could be the culprit of this noise? I did notice the struts on both front tires to be leaking a little bit ok the bottom...?
Attached photos are
some part I don’t know the name of but the rubber part is cracking, typical on left and ride side of car
two photos of lower ball joint, upper ball joint was in same condition, both sides of car looked the same
Two photos of leaking strut
Your struts are leaking pretty bad and the rubber on that bushing is completely shot. I'd say both need to be replaced. Did you or a previous owner run larger rims or aftermarket suspension or hit a lot of potholes, any combination of that could have led to the problem.
I have 19s on it that came when I purchased the car. I guess I’ll will change out both parts. 82k on the car. The left strut is barely leaking compared to the photographed strut and the photographed one doesn’t make any noise...
Wow, I have never actually seen a leaking strut on my cars before. I am one not to replace things on a regular basis anyway (except oil, fluids, and filters), unless they break and need replaced. My lesson learned, had a 12 yr. old Saturn Vue with 150k miles on it, and was getting noises from front end. Had both front struts themselves and rear shocks replaced for like $500. Seemed like the right thing to do given the age and mileage. Did not solve problem. Ended up having to replace the front strut's bearings as they were the source of the noise. So wasted $500 on $30 worth of parts needed. Lesson learned, do not replace everything or throw out the baby with the bath water if the bath water is the only thing dirty. And, do it yourself if you can. I have become quite handy in my older age and haven't spent money at a garage in years.
