I'm having a really difficult time trying to get the cover to the center speaker off, but once i can get to it, i'll be replacing that one too.
Those are the tweeters in the dash, should be replaced with tweeters.

In my First post thats were I would install the focal tweeters.

The non-ML seem to have better cone material than the ML system. Thats.... Interesting. Though the magnet is about 25% bigger than my 2015 Prius OEM speakers. 😆

At least Lexus/Toyota is not using 6x9 cardboard speakers in the front of ML system. The non-ML are 6.5" but since the gap is the same, I have an option to upgrade to 6x9.

Front Right Speaker.

i couldn’t remove the cover either, I tried to pry it a little bit, but I felt I was going to damage the surface and stop. So I put the speakers on the corner dash. I feel que I upgraded the majority of the speakers And I like how it sounds on a budget. Next will be an amp if the ML goes bad.

ML speakers are not made to look expensive. They are built to spec. The doors are not full range. Replacing them with full range speaker won’t yield full range results. An audio installer of course will sell you something better or have you believe it. Bigger magnets must be better, right?

IM not here to tell you spending 2 grand is a waste and that the sound can’t be improved. Its also subjective. Just like we justify the 0-60 mph times given the car is naturally aspirated and reliable. THe midrange door speakers are designed to the ML spec that the crossovers will feed it.
When the audio engineers do their thing they are tuning the system to a desired result with a likely effect to flatten out the bass curve and equalize everything that hits the ear at the same time. We prefer more bass, we turn it up. We all like different sounds so it’s impossible to please all and if we like more modern tracks with deep bass we get more subs put in and there goes the refinement. Then we need more high end, and so forth......
After market tuners will show us the pretty speakers and sell how crappy and cheap our expensive cars speakers and get you mad. We love our cars and want all the best parts so why different. My point is with money you can improve everything. In a 17 speaker set up with ohm specs when replace it your possibly over buying given the crossover spec or messing the balance which will likely result in keep replacing them all.
Nothing wrong with having fun and trying to improve everything. Just understand the ML designers put that speaker there by spec, not magnet ounces or the pretty frame.
I did a mod the other day. I Lowered my Treble from half down one and increased mid and bass by one. Let it sit a day or two. To my preference it creates a more mid bass punch by those ****ty doors which is more audible. The sub is there to compliment that lower end. With a high quality Tidal feed on some Skip Marley tracks I was listening to the bass response was nice “To me”.

So I spent $1200 on Focal speakers for the front and rear. Got them
used on eBay. Retail it’s $1800.

for the rear door tweeter I cut apart the oem tweeter and retrofitted the focal tweeter into the mount using 3m vhb tape, looks factory.

More work/updates to comes.

This is how I retrofit the rear door tweeters.

Cut off the factory tweeter off the mount with hack saw.

Remove the cover/grill on the focal tweeter.

Put 3m vhb tape.

Stick on the focal tweeter.

Pop off the foam surround from the factory tweeter.

Break off the extra plastic with pliers.

Put vhb tape and stick it on the edge of the tweeter. Two complete tweeters for the rear doors.

Last step is to solder the connections to retain the oem plug, the oem tweeter has plus and minus so I wired accordingly. Not the prettiest but solid connections were made.

Nice, them focals at that price range must be solid. I wonder if there's an amp that we can basically plug and play with our cars. I would like to upgrade the amp as well.

You are correct, just ran into that problem, returning.

Added sound deadener to the inside of the speaker adapters to reinforce it. Also gasket foam to the inside edge that makes contact to the door.

All the speakers are prepped and ready to swap in. I used nvx silicone speaker baffles to protect the front speakers from water.

Silicone baffle, back side is open.

I made my own front tweeter mounts using some plastic flooring. A drill, A hack saw, and a hole saw.

Stick a credit card in the front of the grill(all the way down), and pry up. That's what I did to remove the grill for the front tweeters. There are two clips and 2 hooks holding it down.

So, you put those bad *** speakers with the ML amp and it moves it? How does it sound? I'm super tempted to sell my speakers and get those.

It probably sounds amazing! The speakers Lexus put in the car aren't bad but I bet they are not up to the quality of those or the ML amp to be honest. It's like the tires they put on the car; they are good but Michelin's are better
