I'd say suspension. Bad shock perhaps or maybe very loose joints becuase I think the cupping is caused by the inability of the suspension to keep the tire in full contact with the road. If it is allowed to skip or hop slightly over long distances or time the lack of constant pressure to the road will cause uneven wear.
Edit: also it could be an out of balance wheel. Have you had it checked?

This is correct, most likely a blown shock, if the tire was that bad you would know it.
