Default Redoing front bumper PPF disaster

So I initially had suntek PPF on my bumper, and had a couple rocks pierce the film. Turns out suntek is on the thinner side. I decided to have the bumper redone in expel ultimate, that's 25% thicker.

I had this bumper painted 2 months ago and this is what happened when they removed the film.

So now my PPF installer is going to sand the edges of the ripped off paint and wrap the entire center satin black before wrapping the whole bumper in expel ultimate. Then I'm never taking it off again.

The shop that painted my bumper apparently didn't prep or prime it properly.

Stay tuned for the updated look.

Yikes. Hopefully the peeled area outline won't be visible once wrapped. Assuming you waited after repaint for the paint to cure/gas off before applying sun tek?

I waited a month after the paint job. The PPF guy said they would sand as best a possible and use Satin Black wrap to hide chance of edges. If anything is noticeable I'll just screw the license plate into the middle of the bumper and live with it.

Damn that sucks! We have Xpel Ultimate on our MDX. That too have a rock chip that pierced into the film on front bumper. I'm now scared to take the film off to replace albeit our MDX had never been repainted. PPF it days after purchase new. Hopefully Acura paint will hold up much better.

Is it possible that your front bumper was repainted in the past? Usually, vehicle wraps will not rip off the the car paint unless the paint wasn't done properly. Or perhaps the the wrap was installed/removed incorrectly.

I had the base bumper before, bought new f-sport one from Lexus and had a body shop paint it. The wrap actually came off easily. The car was sitting in 90 degree weather all day before he removed the ppf, did it in front of me.

I don't know what it is with the GS paint or that liquid platinum paint but when I had my old GS (same color), I installed a lip kit with double sided tape on the edges (on wheel arch area) and when I pulled it off the paint came off with it!!! This was all stock GS with factory LP paint.

Perhaps the shop that did the re-paint didn't let the paint cure long enough before applying the wrap. New paint can be really soft and it takes at least a few weeks for the paint to fully cure. Also, I found that it is helpful to use a heat gun gently when removing PPF. Once a corner is peeled off, careful use of the head gun on on the inner side of the film to remove the adhesive.

PP plastic takes alot of prep to paint and adhere properly. Judging by the smooth and shiny surface of the plastic, it wasn't prepped at all.

Raja, owner of Speed and Tech Motoring saved my bumper. He spent over an hour sanding the damaged part and the job ended up being much more work than expected, but the end result speaks for itself. Now entire bumper protected with Xpel Ulimate Plus.

I have the Xpel Ultimate and very pleased with it. What did they change by adding Plus to it?
