I am trying to determine the age of the battery in my 2013 GS. Below is a link to some pictures of the top of my battery, it appears to be a standard Lexus/Toyota one. I’ve looked through my maintenance history but found no mention of the battery being replaced, but I bought it as a certified pre-owned 3 years ago, so I don’t know about before then.
If I need to take the battery out to reveal a date/date code I can, was just having difficulty with it, and it’s freezing out in my parking ramp, so figured I’d see if it’s one of the ones posted above.
I'd say your battery is the original battery Lexus installed in the car when it was built, which means it is slightly older than the build date of your car.
Consider yourself lucky that the battery has lasted this long - you are most definitely on borrowed time. Personally, I would replace it right away.
Do a load test on it if you want to squeeze every last day of life out of it.
If you're going to spend the effort taking out the battery to check the "date code", you might as well just throw a new one in there. It's just not worth getting stranded out in the freezing cold. Weak battery puts added strain on your alternator and starter.
I can't believe how many people try to squeeze every last single day out of their battery, especially considering how stressful it is when your car fails to start...because it always seems to happen at the worse times. Considering how little a new battery actually costs and how long a battery typically lasts it should be a no-brainer to replace it long before it fails.
What is the cost of a new battery - $3 to $5 per month? Hell, that's a lousy tip for a cheap sit-down lunch for just one day! Think 'bout it! People spend hundreds of dollars each month on their cell phone plan and spend even more on their Internet and television plans, and easily waste $5 a month on gas for joyriding, but they can't bring themselves to replace their old battery when they know full-well it's on borrowed time. To me - that's amazingly stupid!!!
Well, I took my 14 in today for the 45k service ($74 including a new button battery for my fob). I was still rocking my car's original Panasonic battery.
Rather than trying to eek out every last day of that Panasonic battery, I just went ahead and replaced it ($140).
The plastic sleeve/cage is gone. 84month warranty.
