You guys that are on CarPlay (phone plug-in via USB), are you saying when you get a call, CarPlay handle the calls and the call quality is very poor? Your are unpaired from Lexus BT? What happened if you are paired to Lexus BT. Does the OEM system handle the calls even when phone is plug-in via USB and CarPlay is running?
I really don't have any complaints about call quality with Android Auto. I'm still paired with Lexus BT, so my calls are still handle by Lexus. Sounds same as before I installed GROM.

Yes my called are handled by Lexus no can actually choose on my iPhone between Lexus and CarPlay. Whenever CarPlay is selected I get complaints that the connection is bad. I switch on the same call to Lexus and it's significantly better.

Well now, you know not to select CarPlay to handle your calls. Apple sucks..Android rules
Strange, as I don't have this selection with Android Auto. Do you mind showing me the screen where you have this selection?
I thought the same thing! I haven't really used GROMs Bluetooth. I get really poor quality out of their CarPlay wired calls. Does anyone have experience with GROMs Bluetooth?
What type of audio problems do you get on the phone call using CarPlay? Is it ground loop noise/ sounds like a blender? I put one of these in front of the VL2's 3.5mm MIC input and the mics sounds 1000% better, no ground loop noise at all:

Calls quality are horrible on CarPlay. Not only is the call volume a lot lower than the regular volume, people always complain they can’t hear me and that it sounds like my windows are down. This led me to stay connected to Lexus bluetooth. When a call comes, it shows up on CarPlay first and within a few seconds, Lexus takes over and I use the off hook button on the steering wheel to pickup the call. When making a call, I choose the output from the speaker icon on the phone to Lexus. My phone has gotten so used to going to the Lexus output, it switches to it automatically when making a phone call.
I don’t connect to the VLine Bluetooth at all. Seeing that wireless CarPlay will be using the Bluetooth to connect, I’m just hoping the audio source will be rerouted a be better from there. I would really love to stay off the OEM side completely. So we’ll see...
Bluetooth in wireless carplay is just to pass the wifi details of the car's head unit to the phone. All the video and audio travel over WiFi; carplay works the same as airplay basically, even when using the USB cable.

I have asked GROM for a new harness I think my harness has a ground loop. Or it could be my VL2 has a ground loop; we will find out....
That’s pretty interesting. Are you saying that calls work perfectly for you on CarPlay since you’ve purchased that little thing? If that’s so, I’m definitely willing to try it.
Well, I also lowered the gain to a range between 24-33 on CarPlay, and then put the device in front to the VL2. I haven't got any complaints so far when I have been using it. The audio from the phone is still a little to low , as I have to turn the ML audio all the way up, but then again, im sorta deaf lol.
I would try those thing above and see if it helps.

I'm the opposite. I have to set mic gain to max on VL2 for any voice guidance/search to work. Google can't hear me if mic gain is set any lower. I almost have to scream into to OEM mic for Google to pick up my voice. Do you think this ground loop filter will work for my purpose to improve voice recognition. I don't remember voice recognition was an issue before. Lately it can't hear me unless to speak very loudly and window have to rolled up. Maybe another bug with GROM.

I guess it’s worth a shot. If anything, I can return that thing.
Has anyone had any success with the USB retention adapter? Mine makes and retains the connection for about 3 seconds and keeps looping. Checkout the video below... Any suggestions is welcomed

Are you sure you are plugged into the right USB port of the VL2? Only one USB port supports CarPlay; this looks like that's is what is happening. I would swap ports and test again.
