Default GS 350 safety features

Hi all,

I'm contemplating a used GS350 AWD, most likely a 2015 or 2016 non-F sport. I like the lighter headliner on the non-F (eg with the flaxen seats) whereas it appears the F's only have black/dark headliners.

Anyway, I'm really interested in safety features, especially blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Also, automatic pre-collision braking, pedestrian detection/safety, and the like. I've used the helpful sticky to determine BSM, but what about RCTA and the pre-collision braking/etc? Are those standard on both 2015 and 2016s? If available but not standard, how do I tell? In looking at the 15 and 16 GS brochures available on Lexus.com, it's very hard to tell for sure.

The RCTA comes with BSM, so if it has BSM, you're good.

The pre collision system comes with the dynamic radar cruise, so the best way is to look to see if it has the DRCC button on the steering wheel (looks like a car with lines in front of it). This is pretty rare on 2015s, much more common on 16s, and standard on 17s.

Thanks -- super helpful! How does RCTA work? Does it beep at you or does it just illuminate the BSM's car indicator(s) in the side mirrors?

RCTA beeps at you and flashes the BSM indicators in the mirrors.

It's saved my bacon a few times when people were speeding behind me as I backed out. Great in garages; this is one of the easiest cars to park i have ever driven.

I don't even use the park assist outside of rare occasions, but the BSM and the rear traffic alert stuff is priceless..... just gotta be aware that sometimes the rear alert will false because the detection range is enormous. For example, at my cigar club the lot is near a busy street, and when I back up, the rear alert will actually pick up cars approaching on the street that are through a wrought iron fence and over 30 feet away from where the lot is.... it is kinda funny when it happens though. Great tool for parking lots and dodging idiots flying down residential streets etc...

For me, I'm most interested in RCTA, then BSM, then park assist. With the preponderance of SUVs, backing out of spaces with SUVs on one or both sides is common.

it also works on pedestrians, which is great. Cause you know people don’t give a crap about where they’re walking, they can’t be at fault cause they’re the pedestrian...
