It will be fine. The knock sensors will adjust the timing if it senses knocking.

 

Really? Any noticeable differences in MPG? I know it's trash to begin with anyway, but any worse?

 

Don't floor it and you'll be fine since the ECU will compensate (less power and mileage maybe). Just fill back with premium next fillup and you're good to go.

 

You'll be fine, my sister has filled mine up with 87 before, no problems. I've also filled with 87 when I was somewhere that didn't have premium.

 

ehhh.. maybe 1mpg.. i mean.. i do a lot of local driving so you know it's bad no matter what gas or liquid you put in the tank.

only time I can feel the difference is when flooring it to merge onto the freeway (black smoke with 87, no smoke with 93)
Also.. going on a low rev uphill.. car "shakes" with 87.. little smoother with 93..

take off from lights, a bit smoother with 93..

I pump 87 because the difference from premium is about 60 cents a gallon, so $10-$12 per fill-up.. which is a big difference to me.

 

 

Go easy on her. At least she filled up for you after using your car! $20 isn't much and it's probably mixed in with the premium remaining in your tank.

But anyhow, good excuse to make a stink. Make up is always great.

 

Doesn't matter just keep throwing 93 back into it and it'll be fine.

If the difference is 60 cents you need to find better gas stations. Out where I live in Fitchburg the delta is about 40 cents maybe... like when I fuel up my ES 330 its like $2.65/gal for 87 and its $3.05/gal for premium (93) for my GS350 at the local place.

You can also do like a blend offset to hit 91 octane, which is the garbage premium they sell out in CA, which is what these cars were built around as a lowest common gas.

EG, throw in 10 gals of premium and another 5 gals of the cheap stuff and you'll be somewhere around 91 octane if your car is going to take about 15 gals of fuel (which is a typical, mostly empty GS tank).

Anything is better than having your car driving around running like garbage. These cars weren't designed to run with only crap gas in them.

Just be glad she didn't put diesel fuel in it. A tank of 87 won't do any harm whatsoever. Whenever there is a pipeline break or hurricane that causes a shortage of premium gasoline for a week or two everyone must use 87 octane. Even the high compression, wildly tuned Ferraris, Lambos and McLarens around here did okay with regular octane during the gasoline shortage as long as you don't put it under a full load.

 

I have regularly mixed regular into my tank. At $20, that was probably less than half a tank so if it was even 50/50, that's still 89/2+91/2=90. More than acceptable.

 

Just like what everybody has said. You'll be fine. The ECU will adjust for the lower octane. What you can do is be easier on the throttle and when there's room in the tank for new gas, fill it up with the premium. If it makes you feel better, you can also toss in a bottle of octane booster right now. Relax, drive, and have fun with the car. no worries.
