Default Trunk Springs Weak?

My trunk stays up just OK but a little weak in even the slightest breeze. Is there a way to tighten it up? I couldn't imagine if I were to put a spoiler on it.

There was a TSB to change the torsion bars on some 2013 model GS 350s for hard to close trunks.

While the above TSB addresses the opposite of your problem, I think I recall some people altered the position of their trunk's torsion bars if the torsion bars were set too weak and allowed the trunk lid to close too easily.

I had the same problem when I bought my 2013 used. If you pull back the trunk liner on the left(driver) side of the trunk you will see some holes and the torsion bar going into one hole. Just move the torsion bar down to the other hole and it adds more tension. Viola trunk stays open and can hold positions partially open.

I was just thinking this myself.... a lot of Toyota based products have this feature... I mean it's possible something is worn, but simply moving the bar might help quite a bit.

Next question, how do you get the retaining pin/clips out? They look like they have a pry slot and I tried with a screw driver but I was pretty sure I was going to pop the head off before it turned loose of the hole it was in, It doesn't appear to be the two-piece push-pin type that are used under the hood. I guess I can get some spares and just pull on it until it gives.

Yeah I destroyed those clips when I popped mine off on the GS. Just go to a Toyota dealer and buy a similar looking clips and replace those suckas!

Use a trim clip remover tool and wiggle it left and right, never use a screw driver. They are pretty robust. It's the christmas-tree type clip if I remember correrctly.

Yes it is the Christmas tree clip for the trunk liner.

Oh, they go along with the "MF" bolts in my rear camber arms. I love working on cars but they will make you lose your religion.

This is what the Gen 2 GS trunk lid torsion bar looks like. According to the image (below) the torsion bar on each side can be easily adjusted so the trunk lid does not close on your back/head or is blown shut with a little breeze. As noted, the person that took this image only had to remove one trunk liner fastener on each side to assess the torsion bar.

Honestly if you use the tool the one guy posted the clip comes out easy. I've also used a plastic trim removal tool with a similar shape. This is an easy mod. There was only one adjustment on the drivers side and it made a big difference.

Nope, no extra holes on a 2013 GS. I can probably drill some but there aren't any additional ones that will fit. And the pins are this type, no tool will make them easy to extract. Just jab a screwdriver in there and pull.

Pictures of covers pulled back. Neither side has an additional hole. I can pull them out with my bare hands but there's not alternative spots to put them. I did not make the scratches

Passenger side.

You have it on the drivers side in the picture. I circled it in green. I think that's how mine was. Adjusting the torsion bar to the other position added more tension.

That is not that kind of hole. It won't line up. There is nothing like the 2GS pictures posted earlier in the photos.
