Hello all, my check engine light came on yesterday on my 2013 GS 350 F Sport AWD with 120K miles. I purchased and replaced the fuel cap, checked hoses for leaks, and reset the codes but the codes came back up today. I've been doing some research on these codes but wanted to reach out to you all about what action I should take next. I'm trying to take the financially conservative route and not have to take it into Lexus for repairs.... Thanks!

 

No idea what those codes mean, but you may try replacing the MAF sensor.

 

Evap fault


I know that's a different car but systematically it's basically the same troubleshooting. Need to find a diagram of the evap system and start checking.

INSPECT PURGE VSV
(a) Turn the engine switch off.(b) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.Text in Illustration

(c) Disconnect the hose (connected to the canister) from the purge VSV.

(d) Start the engine.

(e) Use your finger to confirm that the purge VSV has no suction.

That hose fell off my GS430 once. Happy to have had such an easy fix that day.

 

Thank you all for your comments. Just wanted to provide an update: I purchases an OEM fuel cap, replaced the existing one and reset the codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 15 minutes. Have driven around 100 miles since and "check engine" light hasn't come back. I will update the thread if it returns. For now, I'm happy with a $20 fix! Thanks all!

 

Curious to find out if the codes ever returned. Just got same two codes on ES350 with 260K miles. Has original fuel cap. Guess it wouldn't hurt to replace it anyways, but curious to know if replacing the cap was that simple in this case.

 

Make sure you get a Lexus Factory gas cap. Sometimes the aftermarket ones don't work well.

Also filling up the car with gas overfilling can cause this to, but it clears itself.
